While I’m not a sociologist, it seems to me that the mania furries have for grooming and recruiting comes from their roots as a gay subculture. My personal experience was they just love the idea of “converting” straight normals and besides, they need as many recruits as they can get; when everyone’s a weirdo then no one is, right?

Seriously - and my snark aside - they really seem to get off on the idea of converting people and they really have this mania for needing everyone to like what they like, and join in on what they consider fun. I’ve known model railroaders, hot rodders, surfers, gamers, model ship builders, trekkies, and all sorts of others and nobody else has had that ‘you gotta join us and your a sad pathetic person if you dont’ contempt that furries have for normals.
An honest-to-God wholesome fandom would try to maintain its nicheness and not let itself get polluted by newbies and pretenders.

Wew lad they were begging to get their ass beat by hash collisions at that point
Anyone that stupid probably just drops HTTP request parameters into their database queries, so it was going to happen one way or another.

Remember FurrTrax? That shitty mobile "furry social network"? Well, they used to store your password in a plaintext password, not mark them as httpOnly, and then allowed unfiltered HTML in the chatroom.

The admin's password was 1234.

Some twitter furries are having a meltdown over the CNN doc because there wasn't enough trans, gay, POCs included.

They couldn't find anyone who ticked all the checkboxes and also wouldn't break down on camera about how the device was stealing their true, animal soul.

It's my understanding that the interviews mostly took place at ANW, which was Seattle's replacement for RainFurrest. The location of the convention had a lot to do with the lack of POCs. The decision to show mostly cishet furries was probably to try to normalize the fandom to non-furries by making it look less like the heavily gay subculture that it is. "Hey look! There are straight people here, too! They're just like you, sorta!"

the reality is that, minorities have a muted presence in the furry fandom. being a "POC furry" or "transgendered furry" is not the norm.

current "furry research" is worthless so there's no empirical data on this, but if i had to guess, roughly 90% of furries are white, less than 40% are strictly gay, and less than 15% are trans (these figures are pulled out of my ass—feel free to dispute). and if we're talking about Seattle? you'd have a really, really hard time finding even one token "POC furry" with the appropriate level of "freakshow" appeal (and actual "furry notoriety") for CNN's special.

'Furry research' is doubly-fucked since it's self-selected, so you get everyone who wants to show off their pride in their own view of furry running to skew it.

I'd say being a vet tech is pretty successful. Seeing a trained job in a sea of go fund mes gives you hope.

Aren’t they all vet techs? Seriously, that has to be the #1 job I see when furries talk about their work and besides - with all the revelations of late of zoophiles and zoosadists in the fandom, I don’t think these are vet techs you want to get excited about.

It does seem like furry is composed primarily of autistic and confused white kids who don’t know what they are, and who grow up to be self loathing adults stuck in a rut.

That’s not counting the artists who exploit horny furries for easy porn commission cash, guys who are grooming other furries for sex, furry sluts who latch on to thirsty guys for some sugar daddy action, midlife crisis old dudes needing an echo chamber, and of course, zoosadists. Jeeze, now that I think of it this fandom is quite the racket; CNN should report on that.

And of course the studies themselves are just run by furries who skew the data anyways to give the family a clean bill of health regarding their lifestyle. “See mom and dad, I’m totally normal; pay no attention to the fact I wrote the study. Back off, I’m a scientist and shit.”

"Self-employed IT" was the most prominent in that "Fursuit + occupation" imgur album. Saving/cutting up animals is too real for those who seek refuge among mascots.
