Otherkin / Fictionkin / Therians - Weirdos LARPing as animals, mythological creatures, and fictional characters

They are also incredibly stupid if they actually think they're Bambi.
thing is, the sane ones don't actually BELIEVE they are their kin. much like me, they just kinda aspire to be more like their kin.
for me, that includes being more open, less likely to basically tell someone to fuck off, etc. nowadays being generally more nice is part of my nature and it's all bc two years ago i said "i want to be like this guy." many people, when they're young, do the same thing. except i got there a little bit late, and now i'm a bit more into it than most. i don't think it's all that bad though. in fact im slowly moving away from the character i have as my kin. i like the guy, but im starting to think it's time i stop using him as a crutch.
i think that might be why deerkin are always so gentle. they're aspiring to be what deer are usually seen as-- sweet, soft-spoken, and generally good people.

They could just aspire to be, ya know, better people. I think dogs and cats are pretty chill, but I don't aspire to be more like a pet, that's just silly. I get loving animals, hell, I love animals a lot. But you shouldn't aspire to be like an animal, anywhere other then in the sack.

some people find it hard to do it on their own. so they adapt to something they find easier.
on my end, my kin is human, so ???????
you have a point though. i can give you that.

I think what bothers me about Tumblrkin in particular is that they aren't satisfied with simple mysticism and spiritual animal connections; they want to be oppressed for being non-human and try to turn it into a political identity.

It makes me pine for the days of people saying they were a dragon in their previous life.

I think it's their way of trying to become better people and they just compare it to animals because it's easier for them to apply this to their apparent interest in an animal. At least, that's what I'm guessing it should be when Tumblrkin aren't trying to outsnowflake each other...

The otherkin just do things the way they do because that's the best way they know how. It's just that from an outsider's perspective like with you or I, it seems bizarre at best and laughable at worst. Not saying that I support them, but it's food for thought.

Uh... "It" seems unusually self aware, all things considered. I mean, insted of claiming to have some sort of deept spiritual connection to whatever the subject of her kin-ness is "it" openly admits that "it" has mental issues and uses it as a way to cope. "It" might not actually be a completely lost cause.

[Pronoun] will only leave the otherkin lifestyle once the hugbox stops doing anything for [pronoun].

There's some 14 year old on Tumblr who identifies as the ocean.

The entire ocean.

I can't find her Tumblr right now, though, but I'll post it when I do.

I thought that was the secret identity of the chick Tara Strong voiced in MGS: Peace Walker who forced the convoluted final boss to be something other than the actual singing robot monster the game was named after?

"YOU CAN'T GROUND THE OCEAN, MOM!"

But if she's an ocean, since there's more than one after all, what does that make her parents?

Animal otherkin used to be better known as therianthropes and it was about having deep feelings of spiritual connection and affinity with a (real) animal. I don't know when it became conflated with the idea of being elves, dragons, gryphons - or fucking planets or bodies of water.

I say this because I used to be quite active in the therianthropy community but it got so bogged down by 13 year olds screaming FUCK YOU I'M A WEREWOLF that I grew extremely tired of it. Suffice to say there are also some extremely nice, balanced people, some of whom are pillars of their community, who also happen to self-identify in some way with an animal.

Anyone remember that girl with the ED page who identified as a Werejohncandy? I don't think anything's topped that for weirdness so far...
