Makes me feel a whole lot better about my own grades. I don't think 45% is a pass in most cases (usually a pass is 50% or 60% depending on where you are and what course it is).

UK degrees have grade banding: 40% is a pass, although it's classed as a third-class. There's then two second-class grades 2:2 and 2:1, then first class. I don't remember the boundaries for 2:2 to 2:1, but I do remember that a first class is generally anything over 70%. That may not sound very high, but external examiners are famously ruthless when it comes to making sure not too many people get firsts. Source: worked in a university for more years than I care to admit.
