Nothing says family friendly "not a fetish" con like HIV testing rooms. So many furries sleep around with god knows who to the point where cons had to offer HIV testing onsite.

PrEP is going to end up making things worse because everyone is laser-focused on HIV and somehow forgot every other STI that exists.

100% agree, it's already a growing problem in my local gay community where a lot of us know each others' business and I have no doubt that it is a problem in the furry community too.

i don't work in public health but I spend a stupid amount of time trying to force people to get educated and furries are way way way worse about getting educated on any topic except cartoon animals than the average person. furries and safe sex is like trying to teach calculus to short bus kids.

Anyway, I am absolutely disgusted by all the weird fetishes in the fandom, the bad fursuits, and the need to pander to LGBT, PC, and BLM SJW's. Not to mention all the suicidal mental cases. What's to identify with? Furries don't "do" anything but draw and share porn, and pretty much everyone does that anyway. Most Twitch streamers targeting kids have nsfw channels to subs and shit.

Pretty sure the reason why furries are reduced to continuously humping one another is just that there's nothing else to *do* in the fandom. It's the fandom where there's literally nothing to be a fan of except yourself.

If you're even half conscious, furry is a waste of your time and you'll often find yourself questioning what the fuck there is to do that doesn't involve spending money on shit you don't need. Imagine being normal and going to conventions only to find people kinning as "dragons" or some gay shit. It's weird and I'm still not sure if these people actually believe the shit they say. Activities include: Listening to people talk about Pokemon, buying porn you'll never read more than once, and going to panels to listen to more people talk about Pokemon.

The "sanest" furries tend to be the ones who are either "only in it for the porn" or who try to avoid the fandom. The fandom is a magnet for broken people, rich attention whores, and my favorite, obsessive erpers. The furry fandom leans far more towards fetish community than anything resembling a fandom, especially due to the fact that the majority of content the fandom puts out tends to be self indulgent porn. For every furry who makes a video game, comic, or book involving anthromorphic animals that's not porn in any way, it'll be crowded out within the fandom by tons of porn, or even sexually suggestive webcomics like TwoKinds or Sabrina Online.

If you want to draw anthromorphic animals and especially ones that look more like cartoon characters that's fine and all, just don't associate yourself with the fandom in any way. Even back in the 90s, the animation industry frowned upon furries. Besides the stories that floated around about Eric Schwartz being denied jobs due to his furry comics, there was the story of crazy Tiny Toons fan Dennis Falk, who ran a FTP server at one time for Tiny Toons porn where many "first generation" furry porn artists uploaded content to. Dennis started sending voice actor Tress MacNielle sexually explicit mail involving the characters she voiced. Not only did she have to cancel appearances near the area the letters came from, but in a TV interview (which sadly was not uploaded) Tom Ruegger mentioned that he lost interest in Tiny Toons as he was sick of the obsessive internet fans, and the final episode of Tiny Toons even featured a parody of Dennis Falk (and Animaniacs also featured parodies of similar nerds like Dennis):

Hell, even some of the more successful works made by furries that got noticed outside the fandom (like Dust AET) have at times suffered from the stigma associated with the fandom, and it's due to the fact that the furry fandom has gone out of it's way to create the worst image for itself while none of it's members understand why at all.

Hell, there was never a period in the fandom where this wasn't the case. ConFurence started because, aside from SDCC, the other cons in CA started to really frown upon furry parties being held there. Some of it was because they were sexual deviants, but most of it was because they honestly treated professional artists like shit. You had to support amateur artists in the fandom because the professional artists outside of the fandom just didn't "get" what being furry meant. It was really creepy and cult-like.

So the fandom has always been up its own ass. It's pretty funny. You couldn't just draw furry art, you had to actually be a furry. Typically combined with weird New Age stuff about spirit animals and shamanism.

You can still notice a hint of this in people like Xydexx.
