I doubt it. Preston strikes me as someone who is incredibly unhappy all the goddamn time. I think deep down he knows he's wrong, he's just too childish to admit it.

Fish gains nothing? More like Fish gains sympathy and/or support from the "hack" that had happened to him. Dobson should learn that it isn't people that can't be reasoned with but rather his own ego and/or biases are getting in the way but then again, would he even learn?

And in the first Wario Land Captain Syrup wasn't mentioned by gender so until the final level most people would presume male?

I think that the sheer volume and visibility of the critique is what he's referring to. A lot of it, especially when generated by the Internet at large, can be really harsh and unproductive (i.e. just ranting or insulting) as opposed to like, a formal art academy.

What really intrigues me is how this differs from the success of other artists. Surely mainstream comicbook authors get tons of shit, right? What makes Dobson a target? I'm trying to think of a way really explain what went wrong for him.

Sorry to reply to a somewhat older post but I have a pretty good explanation.

He talks a lot of shit and can't back it up. With him, it's constant talk about what you should and shouldn't do as an artist. He acts like he's been there and back in the scene when he hasn't; He's not a particularly good illustrator. Now, this isn't actually such a huge deal when you make comics. You can draw a shitty comic but the humour (or drama) has to fill the spaces where the illustrative focus lacks. He can't even do that much. He has like three facial expressions for characters, his jokes aren't even jokes, and he's completely oblivious that he has no market.

Not only that, he has a melange of ranges in his personal life and yet his ego shines high. He'll make comics where he engages in self depreciation, but it's to mull a sense of humility and understanding from the audience. In the same exact strip he'll show his opponents, as they were, as frothing at the mouth psychos who only want to tear him down.

He doesn't understand why things are as they are. The fact is, he lacks talent, he's not enough of a good personality to keep the ship afloat, and he's too busy painting a turd a tarnished shade of gold to take helpful critiques and make something out of it other than another strawman comic where he gets to zing some shitty rendition of the people not sucking his dick in admiration.
 
Dobson claims that comic is based off a true story. If it is based off a true story, then Dobson must have no idea what "happy ending" means. My guess is his friend told him about how one time there was a male model in figure drawing class who got an erection, which is probably not that unusual, and Dobson ran with it all the way off a cliff.

This is also a prime example of a Dobson non-joke. HUR DUR BONERS.

EDIT: Also Jade is like three and a half heads tall in this comic. There is so much wrong with the perspective on this one that I can't even begin.

I honestly thought he meant ejaculation which really only makes the comic more awkward. Either way, it isn't that funny.

Also edit: She doesn't even look like she's sitting on the ledge. She looks like she's trying to keep as much weight off her ass as possible and it looks really uncomfortable.
