Note that they're dismissing the claims against Andi Dier as "just unsubstantiated tweets", but they were perfectly happy to crucify a ton of men on the basis of unsubstantiated tweets.
The only reason why this is likely to get more scrutiny than the claims against Nyberg is because Rose McGowan is a public figure and the media will be looking for a different angle on the story.

With the rise of the Internet, there's less need for pimps, in that an online advert can do much the same job. They do exist, but they're more at the sketchy end of the market - junkies, homeless women, trafficked women and the like, i.e. women who are coerced. It's a bit much to expect Jake and the Tumblr crowd to know anything about the rough end of sex work. Interferes with the "powerful wimmin" narrative.

What muddies the waters is that "sex work" is a very nebulous term these days. Everyone from full-time escorts to people who put a few nudes on Tumblr calls themselves a sex worker these days.

Pimps serve a very important role in the sex trade industry, offering stability, drugs, and protection. Yes they’re generally awful and abusive but they also keep their skanky employees from getting beat up and robbed by equally abusive guys who would have to pay for sex. I agree with 99% of this post but most higher-end escorts don't have pimps. Some may have a boyfriend who sponges off of them or a "driver" who's given a cut to serve as de facto backup or muscle but that's not the same as a pimp.
