So, I saw it recently with a friend.
Simultaneously loved and hated it.
Hated it because good god, the writing is fucking abysmal. There are Kiwis who have written better slash-fiction than this movie - no joke. The politics of the movie is so blatant and on full display that it's honestly sort of amazing, and it's pretty much a great example of the Social Justice Effect on Media (the more you pander, the more your work fails).
Why did I love it? Because good god is this movie fucking entertaining, for all the wrong reasons.
From the section where an asian character with no personality or backstory replaces Finn, the affable black guy from the first movie, and essentially relegates his ass to a backseat role with all the hilarious implications that entails, to the fact that the Rebellion appears to be led by a group of asshats who have absolutely zero idea what they're fucking doing, I have not laughed this hard at a piece of Star Wars related media in years.
This would be a perfect movie to watch with drunk friends.
