I was terrified of the show Are You Afraid of the Dark? I think it was Canadian. The one with the guy turning into a bug really scared me. When he looks in the mirror at his bug face... :cryblood: It was so terrifying to me.

I was afraid of flies because they go on poop. I was afraid there was a guy outside my door who wanted to kill me so I would be scared to move in bed. I was afraid my dead family members were starving for food in the grave and thought we should open their mouths and force them to swallow water and bring them food.
 
One of the first things I can remember was being scared shitless of It's A Small World at Disneyland, which still creeps out adults today but I don't think I was afraid of the dolls. The face on the front of the facade creeped me the hell out years after that though. It rotating back and forth while the clock ticked loudly was really ominous.

I actually find it charming now because I'm a sperg over travel and other countries. I was even disappointed the one in Florida doesn't change for Christmas, if only because the song isn't so annoying in the Christmas version because they at least play Jingle Bells too.

This is a perfectly rational fear, as geese are assholes who can--and will--do a surprising amount of damage to a human if provoked. Plus, that hissing noise they make as a warning is just creepy as hell.
 
Showers. It's funny because I'm fine with bathing & love swimming, but showers have always scared me for some reason. It's kind of sad.

Otherwise I can't remember... the only thing I was scared of was lightning & thunder as a kid. Thunder is because I was generally afraid of loud noises (because :autism:). Lightning is because I had bad luck, and that I thought me being around was going to cause lightning to strike and burn the house down.
 
the mario head at the beginning of Super Mario 64 terrified me as a kid, like i think i ran out of the room once when my brother was playing that game because of how scary it looked to me.

Another N64 related trauma to me as a kid was the mask transformation sequences in Majora's Mask, I'm still scared shitless of that game man.

So did the game over screen in Donkey Kong 64, K.rool's laugh is creepy, and the thoughtof DK Island getting blown up was scary af to me too.

Whenever I'd lay my head on the pillow while on my side, I'd hear my heartbeat and know it was my heartbeat, but get this weird fantasy that it was the footsteps of something walking steadily towards me. It was like a small monster or something and was slow but couldn't be stopped.

I was telling my dad about that once as an adult, just one of those "hey kids are weird" conversations, and he told me that he had the same fear. Funny how common shit we think as being unique to us is.

For me, it was the shower scene from Psycho even though I never watched the full movie. I took really fast showers after that with the shower curtain open the entire time lol. And the entire Chucky series, first horror movies I watched and they freaked me out so bad.
 
Did anyone else ever try to scare themselves? I don't know what was wrong with me, but as a child I'd be lying there in the dark looking at the vague shapes of the furniture and things, and I'd catch myself trying to make the shapes into something more frightening. Like "that's a chair, but if I tilt my head, it sort of looks like a giant skeleton hand coming out of the ground." Then of course I'd end up scaring myself and freaking the fuck out in the middle of the night.

Also, silverfish. FUCK silverfish. When I was young, my mom was working on a historical novel that wasn't kid-friendly, and some of her manuscripts were kept in these big ring binders in the basement office. Of course, if you tell a child they're not supposed to read something, that child immediately wants to read it. So one afternoon I snuck down there, grabbed a binder off the shelf, opened it, and holy fuck there's a giant hairy thing with fifty million legs and it's coming at me RIGHT IN MY FACE AHHH GET IT OFF

To this day, I still can't handle centipedes, millipedes, or silverfish.
 
I was a neurotic kid who was afraid of everything who grew into a neurotic adult. One of my biggest fears came from when I was really young and at my step grandma's house, playing with some kids a little older than me. I don't know what the hell lead to this, but at some point I was pinned down on a wheelbarrow with a rake being shoved in my face and this girl was trying to get me to eat a snail on the end of rhe rake. I managed to break free and gtfo, but I've been terrified of snails for the last 20 years. Something about the spiraling shell is profoundly unnerving to me, I can't even deal with empty ones.
