I will give him props for saying he'll defend anyone regardless of what they make but yeah, the comic is dumb. Shen's stuff can be okay for "relatable" comics but that's a pretty low bar.
Does Tim Buckley even need defenders anymore? His shit had been on a slow path from "hilariously bad" to "bad, but nothing to get worked up over" - dont' know if you call that an improvement or a decline. There was that small boost when he killed his manchild alter ego. Fatherhood seemed to have mellowed him out.
Because we've all had asshole teachers, and we're also all familiar with teachers that push us because they see that we can be more. That art teacher was the most relatable and "human" of all of Dobson's characters so of course he's the best.

Something that i find fascinating about "Loss" is that as a story, it's actually structurally sound and could be a wonderful piece of fiction...if it was in any comic that wasn't Ctrl Alt Del. Hell, i bet Penny Arcade could do way better with the idea. The biggest problem is that CAD was always meant to be a comedy comic and suddenly going for a super dramatic piece about stillbirth is outright lunacy. You're flat out killing a child, one that hasn't even had a chance to live yet, so you need to more or less "earn" it, and Buckley didn't. Plus the dialogue free format makes it way too easier to tear the shit out of.
If Shen didnt mention him by name and offer his services as an e-bodyguard I doubt Dobson would care about what he was saying at all. Its always all about him.

I havent seen anything from Buckley in a long time. To be fair I havent looked either, but I used to see him getting shit on constantly and now I don't see people posting anything new about him so I figured he either quit or calmed down. I just see Loss jokes now, which like you said are still pretty great and will probably continue its longtime role as ones of the holy grails of shitty webcomics for eternity.
And the sad thing is, he never became more than that. He is still just 'that comic guy', he never really improved beyond doodling - apart from one or two decent images he has produced in over 10 years.
Oh, he knows it’s satire. He just thinks it’s bad satire because not all the sins are jokes, so “clearly people will think they’re being 100% serious and not watch the movie, which is CinemaSins fault” or something. He says the videos should either be all joke sins and should state quite clearly that it’s all a big joke, or only focus on serious problems with the films and make no jokes at all while also making it super obvious that they are serious.

Shen is dangerously close to being trolled into the next Dobby.
He has mental problems, depression mainly, and really needs to not pay attention to social media or just have a private account for friends.
He has a successful gig and popularity, like Dobbo once did, but he’s going to let trolls drive him insane and years from now he’ll be ranting on New Twitter about bike cucks.
It’s a shame because while he may not be making the most groundbreaking work, he does seem dedicated and wants to branch out.

By performing a reach-around in the "harassed artists" circlejerk and by throwing a punch or two at the harassers, thus ensuring that he gets himself entangled in the tarbaby that is online trolling.
So is this Shen guy going to have his own thread next? Or is there just going to be a thread for all these mediocre webcomic guys that aren't as bad as Dobson? All these comics by Shen and that Buzzfeed guy are essentially just "I'm so sad and pathetic" shtick with the same punchline where some personification of "life" beats them up, or the main character wants to do something but then procrastinates and doesn't do the thing.
