I mean it's been there for a long time without causing many waves apart from in subs like /r/justneckbeardthings and /r/niceguys where their idiocy is reposted. They still screech about Reddit hurting their freedom of speech. When in reality they violated the terms of service for what Reddit allows on their platform. Which Reddit being a private entity has every right to do.
