I don't think award shows are declining in viewership solely because of politics. The people being celebrated are already awarded with the extra zeroes in their bank account. What value does a person get out of watching an actor or a sports star accept an award? It's not exciting. They aren't your friends or family. Those events are for solely for the celebs and the weirdos that hover them, not the peasants. They used to get big audiences when there was limited entertainment choices, but now that's not the case.
