Anyone have suggestions for brands for clothes that fit into a Diane Keaton aesthetic? Menswear styling without necessarily buying actual suits. I'm looking for quality pieces but I definitely don't have a Diane Keaton budget. I also don't have time to hunt through thrift shops. Most of my current wardrobe is generic Target/Old Navy jeans/flowy top but I really want to wear things that I imagine myself in, and I'm ready to lean into my old lady era:

L.L. Bean, Ralph Lauren, Lands End, some Burberry, Tom Ford, etc. Those brands will make your “decent quality essentials”. Go for solids and traditional patterns. Accessorize with hats, thick minimalist belts, delicate jewelry. As far as shape goes, make sure you look for a fitted waist. Don’t go over sized/flowy everywhere, make sure you have some deliberate structure. Balance is key.

If there's a better thread for this sort of stuff please direct me- does anybody have good websites for figurine collections? I'm currently using MyFigureCollection.net as mostly a window shopping thing but the issue comes in terms of actual sourcing, buying, and middlemen for buying shit that's locked to japan (for example the anniversary miku figurines... i want one, very badly, but last time she went on sale it was for 400+ USD due to tarifs.)
If nothing else I might make an OP for a neet figurine collector thread.

TLDR: Where Can I Buy Cute Shit Like These without getting scammed and/or ripped off

I really hate to say it - but if you aren't collecting for name brands/don't mind bootlegs (which often can be of equal or even better quality to real figures - like they'll fix flaws in original figures) just stick to Aliexpress or Temu. Less tariffs, even in the EU, due to whatever ChiCom loophole they use for shipping. & many sellers dedicated to kawaii figures.

Have any other lady Kiwis given up on pants?
More or less. Cannot get any that actually fit me. I have been looking for a pair of gardening trousers, with reinforced knees, and every single one I try is 20cm too long while having such a short rise that they’re unwearable. Also cannot find hiking trousers. Same issue - rise is obscenely low, legs are too long.
The same goes for everything at the moment. It’s either ridiculously long, those god awful barrel ones or wiiiiiiide.
I want high waisted, 29inch leg pants. Slim cut. And I just can’t find any.

Pretty much all the scandi brands. They’re all this kind of oversized menswear type stuff. I hate it because I’m short, but if you’re built like that it looks different (better.) brands: I know remain, and samsøe o samsøe do those kind of long slim blazers and wide trousers.

It's either bike shorts or a skirt/dress for me now. I can't find pants that look good on me and fit- there is more than 20cm of difference between my waist and hips and even when I put on pants that barely go through my hips- they will always stick out on the waist. It's so much easier to just put on a skirt- and much more stylish too!

I feel like this shouldn’t be an issue
I should've been more precise, but I meant the difference between my waist circumference and hips circumference, not how far apart they're spaced from each other. I do agree however with this being an issue, and that older sewing patterns are more skinny people friendly. I could sew those clothes myself, but I'd very much enjoy an option of getting clothes that fit

No no, I get exactly what you mean.
I’m just looking at the measurements on modern and older patterns. Here’s a repro 1954 dress for example; a size 12 is 32 bust, 25 inch waist, 34 inch hips, and looking through similar, they seem to assume about 9 inches (22-23cm) difference between hips and waist.
Looking at a modern pattern, I’m seeing a modern size 12 being 38-40 inch bust, 30-34 waist and 41 hips. So only 6 inches difference, it’s significant. So not only has the size inflated but the ratios are really different too, waist sizes are way bigger.
One thing I often notice about older patterns is the waist size barely changes and as you go up the sizes it’s the hips and bust increasing far more.
Rtw I think is even more extreme.
It’s a difficult figure to dress these days, and it never used to be. You might benefit from looking at specific styles of clothing where there are things like darts in the bodice, that would allow you to nip a waist in a bit. For trousers, if you go for something with a higher rise, it lets you take some of that volume and stretch it onto the hips. Low rise pants don’t have that. It’s not easy if you’re anything outside the sizing blocks big retailers use!

Vanity sizing has gotten really bad where I live. I'm tall and skinny but sort of rectangle-shaped with tits so by no means petite. Last time I was in an actual physical store the S sized clothing was hanging a little loose on me. S sized. SMALL. I am NOT a small person lol. Shit must be so bad if you're actually short and not fat. Eeeeveeerything is shaped like a big fat fucking tube, hipless, waistless, titless

point of order: in clothing terms, "petite" means "short women." "Women" means "fat women" and "ladies" means "women." Probably.

Anyway, this is the shit we should be using AI for in Space Year 2026. I stand in the tube and get laser-measured, and the shop's robot loads a premade base dress and darts and hems it with NASA precision. Also fixes the sleeves.

I hate switching out stuff to put in a purse. Why can't I just have one that matches all my outfit? What is your go to purse for all occasions?
We're probably at different life stages; I have an orthopedic purse:

Have you considered those felt purse inserts/organizers, that make it easy to transfer everything from one bag to another?

No purse sadly will ever match everything. My day to day when out actually shopping where I'm using my hands is a black mini fashion backpack. I havea shit ton of purses but purses are just for fashion if you get pain from crossbody/shoulder straps.

I’m pretty sure my dominant arm is more muscular than my non dominant arm from carrying a handbag on my elbow all the time. So much stuff is required to leave the house and as the purse carrier it’s like an unspoken rule that my husband and kids are always shoving things in my bag.

Exactly. I myself shove everything i need into my purse, wipes, chapstick, sunglasses, wallet, snacks etc. The backpack is a must. I see women and even fathers now using backpack diaper bags as sort of a catchall now, but mini backpacks (not loungefly shit) do the job. There are many brands like Guess etc that makes nice ones, but I prefer the more bendy soft nylon type than the hard polyleather kind (they get heavy)

There's many aesthetic ones but I do the little sporty ones cus I'm a nike shorts girl
