Guys, I know some brown Muslim just enacted rent control and progressive commies hate landlords because they're retarded, but can we not instinctively defend landlords because of that?

Making "only" 100k a year off of owning a property when cost of living is like 75k a year isn't horrible. I get the "landlords will have to cut maintenance costs/reduce services now" argument, but seriously, when was the last time you had a Landlord that actually maintained the property you rented? There's a reason "the landlord special" is a stereotype. Majority of the people stuck in NYC are progressives, Jews, and nonwhite, and I'm assuming the landlords there are scummier than your midwest run of the mill landlord. The only experience I have with landlords is in the south and they have been scummy, like intentionally ripped a bug screen and scratching off wall paint to keep your deposit scummy. They usually hide behind shell "businesses" so they themselves don't have to be responsible for legal repercussions too. I doubt the landlords in New York City are on average any better given what I know of the state, and usually landlords don't even "take a risk" with "investing" because they just get easy approval for loans which they use to purchase houses or units, and use the rent from their tenants to pay off said loan. Its a bit scummy because they end up paying more than a mortgage would cost but the renters generally would not be approved for a mortgage by the banks so can't.

I tend to notice a problem where people instinctively defend the people progressives attack because progressives are insufferable and retarded, the issue is there are real problems progressives are "addressing" but their "solutions" are idiotic. The "conservative" right ignores problems, and that drives some people into commie/progressive shit because they'll atleast admit there is an issue with shit being unaffordable. Sure the medium income in NYC is 100k so the cost of living being 75k doesn't seem that bad, but the medium income is so high because everyone who couldn't afford it left.

The better solution is obviously to deport all the foreigners and enact restrictions on renting to blacks because they heavily drive up maintenance costs with how much destruction they cause, and to hang the foreign agent in charge right now, but yeah they'll never do that. Like with the "walkable" cities and better public transit, progressives are right about it being an issue, the solution is obviously different than what they're saying and involves race, but you can't just say it isn't a problem.
 
I think it's worth noting that 2028 forward is going to be a radically different political landscape. With the Boomers dying off and becoming irrelevant as a polity their politics are going out the door with them. In the exact same way the Boomers enacted the Counter Culture in the 60s/70s and radically upturned the politics of the previous generation.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing ACT which passed almost unanimously in Congress, yet received little press is one of the first signs of what's coming. The Boomer leaders are forced to do this because it has such overwhelming support they cannot avoid it. Even though they very much don't want to and want to continue Line Go Up politics like they have for 50 years.


Trump is currently sitting on this trying to get the SAVE act through but it will likely become law in a few days. One of the biggest pieces of it is that it freezes the investment portfolios of all institutional investors who have been gobbling up residential real estate to turn into rentals. Expect much more radical legislation like this in the coming years.

Preventing institutional investors from buying more houses is a step in the direction is all I meant. Since they cannot sell to other institutional investors. This will gradually squeeze them. As an investment vehicle the real estate market in this way requires you to keep consuming more properties to get more rents and cover your increasing expenses. Since they can't do that they will eventually offload these onto the regular person market. It's a small pressure release valve but its better than doing absolutely nothing, and its all the Boomers can stomach.
 
Landlords are largely scum but the problem is that most of them have obtained their wealth legitimately and the only way to destroy their power is Communism which is a far worse alternative.
There are a lot of solutions that don't involve "communism" (and rent freezes)

Prevent businesses from buying up large amounts of property
Enact a tax restriction on owning more than 3 properties (reduces boomer hoarding of properties)
Put restrictions on giving out loans to people who are buying properties solely to rent out rather than live in
Increase opportunities to get wealth
Mass deport foreigners to lower demand (and increase wages)
Get rid of government funded apartments
Increase job opportunities
Give reduced interest loans to families who have kids (I believe Germany did to increase citizen birth rates)
Fine landlords who rent out to illegals knowingly or not
Crackdown on foreigners living 10 people to an apartment
Bring back manufacturing to America (increase jobs/wealth of citizens)
Stop preferential loans being given
Cut welfare to foreigners and blacks (drives up prices and rent)

Theres so much shit you can do that doesn't involve electing a communist Muslim to rent control apartments or enacting communism.

Institutional investors aren't buying up houses in mass and most rental houses are in built from scratch neighborhoods (which the bill exempts).

Just like how datacenters are a scapegoat for the problems the left created with green energy, institutional housing investors are a scapegoat for problems created by mass immigration and allowing foreigners to buy property. It's not Blackrock who's buying up all the houses; it's Jose the Illegal and Sanjay the H-1B, as well as Yang the CCP Official and Mohammed the Oil Sheikh (though the latter two are only interested in high end property). The left will never stop those people from buying houses or do anything that would actually make housing affordable.

Investors also need to make money and if there isn't anyone for them to rent to they'll lose money, so if you want them to stop, all you have to do is deport their customers.

No it isn't when majority of landlords go to the bank for a massive loan, buy property, then rent out that property and pay off the loan with that money, thats not a risk, if they can't pay the loan back (they will) the bank takes the property back and they made a bit of profit from rent, if they pay off the loan then they basically had a tenant pay them to buy property. Then when they want out they sell off the property, which has inflated massively in value. Denying there is an issue is why people even gravitate towards commie shit. This system inflates property values in the same way student loans/federal grants inflate the cost of college.

I get there are definitely small single person landlords who save up money and buy a property to rent out and do a great job maintaining the property, I know of those guys, but the vast majority of landlords aren't that guy.

Edit: Infinite immigrants mean infinite demand for housing which means infinite property value and rent prices, people who own property and rent it out may actually want infinite immigrants for that reason. Its like boomers not wanting housing prices to fall ever because that's where all their investment is in. I'm not arguing for rent control, seriously, but ignoring there are problems because you're annoyed by redditors spewing retarded solutions isn't smart either.
