I don't think it was meant to prove anything beyond "yeah it's really easy to fake DMs don't take screencaps as absolute evidence".

I'm still pushing the idea that 9volt's into tiny Asian feet, though, because it's just too hilarious to let die.

From what I saw the point was to prove that people eat up everything they see online, and quite often you'll see imageboards making parodies of dodgy leaks with well made photoshops of obviously fake leaks.

What is funny about the whole mombot drama is that it's added a whole new layer of salt to the whole Nick Robinson shitstorm. Case in point, the person mombot got into a fight with on Twitter:

SouIspear is adding emotion to make her point stand out. Barely legal means nothing, she's a legal adult. She consented. She took part and they mutually stopped communicating like that. She just wanted to get her five seconds of fame and it overwhelmed her because now everyone knows she also is a master flirt.

Isn't he more known for his YouTube videos? I don't actually know much about him. Either way, I'm about 50/50 right now on whether I think this will turn out to be anything more than inadvisable flirting with fans. I feel like a huge content drop could be coming over the next few days.

Okay now that her point seems to be taking advantage of fans I wonder if the angle against Nick is something similar to the Austin Jones scandal? (Someone who did take advantage of his underage fanbase and got busted for directing the production of child pornography)

The best salt is from the "can't watch problematic media" people disgruntled they need to find something else that's sufficiently ideologically pure enough to watch though. I remember a lot of "watch the McElroys" stuff being thrown around as an alternative now that Jontron and Pewdiepie were Nazis to these people.

"Taking advantage of fans" is a whole different kettle of fish when they are 14. 18 is an adult, and if they're intimidated by the raw power of videogame journalists then they probably deserve to be flirted with awkwardly anyway.

I do wonder if his "softboy" persona hasn't fed into this- all his fans are effectively keen on the idea of him as some sort of eunuch, and the idea that he has a (straight white male) sex drive at all makes them upset.

If he's getting loads of messages from female fans though, I'd find it hard to be surprised at him shooting off the odd "netflix and chill?". Of course, by his fans' standards, and by his own, that's harassment and sex abuse, which makes this such a compelling trainwreck.
 
Fuck Polygon. Idk how I didnt hear about this.

I applied to work for Polygon through their parent, Vox, back in February. I was strung through 5 skype calls, 2 normal phone calls and sent 10 different people my resume and video portfolio, even though I already submitted it through Vox's application. After 2 months of waiting and setting up skype appointments and spending, at times, 2 hours on skype, they just stopped all interaction with me. No emails, calls, or anything. A "no" would have been better and more professional than silence.
