E;R appreciation thread

Kuvira had the most potential due to not being a mystery box and actually improving the world with rebuilding the fractured earth nation. But by this point the writers went full mental illness and even though there is literally no better altenative than forcibly uniting the earth nations than letting bandits tear areas apart, it still had to go "military bad".
I fully believe they did this because they thought the show didn’t have the nuance enough to explain that to kids (being too retarded) and being the same level of anti-war rhetoric as the manchildren left who were watching season 4 (on fucking web release no less). I honestly thought she would have worked perfectly as Mosley/Mussolini/Franco/Hitler/Stalin analog (dictators in general) as she actually had a proper plan in place. Who wants to bet money one of them was watching gundam when they came up with the mech idea at the end because they couldn’t write a satisfying conclusion?

Amon was such wasted potential, hell all of Korra was
Amon was all pure aura moments it was insane how badly he was wasted. Even his death was total aura.

You can tell though that I think the directors probably didn’t expect another season thanks to his death, and they realised they had written themselves into a fucking corner with how it was. Thus they kept it going for longer than it should have because they are greedy and wanted money.

Slightly relevant, but If I hear one more nigger call amon communist I'm gonna flip. The term has been beaten to death but it quite literally it reaks of media illiteracy. Amon represents civil rights, he seeks to combat a two tier society where the second class citizens are the non benders. He has nothing to do with economics, means of production, power of the state, privitization/nationalization.

Now you can debate how stupid or not stupid that is in regards to a two tier society existing at all in legend of korra when it didn't exist in legend of aang and arguably doesn't even make sense (since non benders can give birth to benders and vice versa), but if we take the premise on its face, amon represents civil rights, not fucking communism.

In fairness, the American civil rights movement was heavily funded by the Kremlin.

You don't really need dictators when it's basically Chinese history 101 - Emperor gets assassinated, all area fractures, a warlord unites everyone, crowns himself as a new emperor and gets progressively crazier descendants. I think the writers actually wrote that the brigands attacking the villages were manipulated to it by Kuvira, which is just insulting to any place that suffers from destabilization.

10 years later, and what exactly has E;R made? Except his video essays, he has literally made nothing.

I mean, Shadversity and the Critical Drinker, fuck even Danny the Raz0rfist masturbating machine has made more “original” content than E;R. Sure Shad’s book sucks and is filled with porn brain logic, Critical Drinker’s books are just rip offs of Jack Reacher, and Danny’s work is a Thief fanfic, but atleast they tried.

I would love to see what kind of creative work E;R’s black ass can make.

"Why won't this guy who makes quality video content expose himself as a talentless goober like all these other people who are talentless goobers did?"

It wouldn’t be exposing himself as a talentless goober. He’s such a good critic, he knows how to make a good story. So why not make one?

Because he makes the videos for fun and not out of some misguided sense that it will catapult him into his own creative success.

e-critics thinking being really good at ripping into something made them good at making anything has been the bane of them since channel awesome

My wife loves ATLA to the point that she's always ranked it among her favorite shows. I liked it, but I didn't watch Korra as it was airing because it looked pretty shit. She watched it and didn't like it, but didn't think it was too bad. We did a watch through of the Last Airbender a few months ago then decided to do Korra afterwards as it seemed logical. Made it 5 episodes before she refused to watch any more. I watched the E;R Korra videos after that and it was vindicating to hear a lot of the same points I was saying to her while we were watching it. I can't believe niggers in 2012 were trying to convince me it was good.

i stopped watching that shit after the second or third episode
it wasn't Avatar at all

Legend of Korra is weird because they have a lot of interesting setups and ideas with the setting and characters mostly in seasons 1 and 4. But then they always without fail shit the bed on the plot aspect of the writing and waste every bit of potential the show had.

E;R did a great job explaining everything wrong with it but more than anyone else conveyed how un-Avatar it was. The spirit world, the technology, the characters, and even down to the fucking action. It was like something else wearing the skin of a beloved childhood animated series.

Yes and no. A lot of his critiques come down to "That's not how I would have wrote it" which is fine but it's a matter of personal taste more than a technical issue with the show itself. The setting of Republic City has some neat ideas to it, the main cast of characters are generally interesting, the issue is that the writers absolutely refuse to do anything of substance with any of it and constantly reset the board as if they were writing an episodic series rather than a serialized one. The narrative conflicts are trite generally because the payoffs are lackluster.

Now with that said it mostly applies to season 1&4 which have genuine potential and could probably be made into a decent show with a bit of polish and minor revisions, I won't even try to defend season 2&3 because those are abysmal dogshit but I think that E;R lets his investment in ATLA color his perception of LoK overmuch rather than going off on the things that LoK fucks up for itself.

I imagine he has an actual full time job outside of YouTube, considering he's always had a inconsistent upload schedule (and he clearly isn't making that much money from doing it), this is a fun hobby for him. Crazy to think it has been 10 years of Korra dunking though, I've been watching him ever since his original Steven Jewniverse video in 2015 (which had the segment that taught me about trannies and where they get their bullshit from, John Money).

He had a few years of brain fog from drugs a doctor prescribed. I cant remember why he was taking them, could have been depression (side affect of watching to much anime probably). But when he was on them he sounded like he was moving and talking in slow motion. ER went over it on his podcast, but that was a while ago so I might have the exact details wrong, but you can hear the difference in him these days.

I had no idea he had a podcast, but that's terrible to hear. Most likely SSRI's that did it, those turn you into an emotionless zombie, I can see it.
