I'm not sure anything would even happen. He's not "part of the pokemon community", he just opens cards on stream. Nobody who plays competitive pokemon or pokemon TCG knows he exists. It would be the same for Smash, except there's no extracurricular stuff for him to get sidetracked by. It's not like he can keep doing story mode forever. I can't see him playing Ultimate online and I definitely can't see him being intelligent enough to figure out how to use Slippi. (Although, in DSP's defense, he might actually like Ultimate, since no Nintendo games use rollback!)
Just a reminder that while Phil is whining about people being "tricked into a subscription service" by Rockstar, the valedictorian himself signed up for EA Origin on a free trial, forgot to cancel it before it charged his credit card, then bitched about it when the trial expired and EA charged him.
Let it not be forgotten that people are still renewing their Patreon pledge to him every month and he sure hasn't reminded them to stop when he stopped providing anything whatsoever.

There is no way in hell that Dave would ever get involved in a gaming community that is as focused on live PVP competition and technical skill while also being incredibly backstabby and toxic as the Smash tards. He would be fucking dogwater at the game, and I think he's just barely self-aware enough to realize this, which is why he would never do it. There is no money to be made, and his ego couldn't take it. He's also just not a social-style individual, he's a total hermit who sees troles hiding behind every bush and is terrified to even go across the street to pick up fast food slop. The Pokemon thing is just an excuse to do gacha pulls and talk about doing gacha pulls on stream without giving the detractors a W (at least, in Phil's mind). He has zero interest in being part of any community other than the "retards who give me money" community.

Which is, or was at least, every other game. I don't think I've ever seen a pity system that was more blatantly demeaning because the AI opponents aren't challenging whatsoever. It's just him bouncing between getting crushed and a free win on a battle-by-battle basis.
