I remember reading a post where someone was hoping that Gooseworx would not put troon shit in the show.

a story with an initially good premise that choose to focus more on therapy talk than anything it was building up.

So why did they abandon the original premise anyway?
Just sticking to the premise of trying to escape the digital hell they're in might have turned out way better than what they actually did.

• Finding exploits or clipping out of the curated environments
• Entering the source code and finding themselves in empty hallways, abstract places or places with absurd verticality
• Running into unfinished assets or npcs they were never meant to see, ones that don't match the brightly-colored visual style of the main circus at all

The whole scene with Ribbit didn't stick out to me as a coming out story. If anything, as the audience member I thought Ribbit putting the bow on Jax was romantic subtext of some sort. The scene was rife with an uncomfortable sexual tension. A man and a woman who are very close, sitting in her room on her bed, talking about very personal things.

It didn't for me either. I half knew that wasn't the case because ain't no way a production does this in the current social climate, but where I felt this was going, was him revealing that he had a crush when he was younger, and when the crush found out, she used his vulnerability and anything she knew about him, to trample his feelings in as cruel and sadistic a manner as she could just for her own amusement. And that he is afraid of falling into the same trap with Ribbit.

The last example that comes immediately to mind is Luka from Steins;Gate, who once again, identifies fully as male, but has a crush on the protagonist Rintaro

I've said this before, but I can't remember if it was in this thread.
When Funimation dubbed Steins;Gate 0, they explicitly removed all pronouns in reference to Luka (they also mistranslated his name as "Ruka" because they're retarded in general), and even replaced a line of Mayuri quoting Okabe's "But he's a dude!" line.
There were I think only two references to him being male in the entire dub, and that was when they literally had no choice because not addressing it would have conflicted with the events happening onscreen.
Really makes you wonder how they would have dubbed the original series if it had come out five years later.

I'll give this to goosework: Until the very end where its revealed she was a jeet, Gangle is a compelling character: she's a meek and frail introvert girl stuck in a place she clearly doesn't want to be a part of, made unstable by having her own dreams shattered by suffering the common outcome of most wannabe artist: being stuck working in a fast food.
The absolute worst part? Her body has a gimmick where her emotions are manipulated and expressed solely via the fragile porcelain mask she wear.

I think zooble is almost an interesting character, but her voice is annoying, she's a nigger IRL and the way she dislikes her avatar as a heavy handed troon metaphor is kind of bad.
Like, I don't hate the idea of a character hating their bodoes, I just think they should have done more with that, especially since of how later episodes shows how useful the swappable body parts thing is.

Really makes you wonder how they would have dubbed the original series if it had come out five years later.

I'm more afraid to know what would have they done to Chrona from Soul Eater.

What's weird is episode 9 makes it so jax was bullying gangle since day 1 but earlier episodes frame it likethe relationship was more complicated than that, especially when they started going more into the "jax show" stuff with him doing shit like asking the genuine question about if gangle's really capable of being happy ever out of nowhere and other shit implying they weren't always the way they were with each other on top of doing stuff like giving her the role of the other goofy terrorist in the president adventure he did an elaborate setup for and him holding back a more severe insult to just call her a loser instead during the anime segment. There was clearly something greater implied there but it seems it just got completely fucking ignored and changed to be "no it was just always him tormenting her" last episode like a lot of shit.

How can someone say it has been foreshadowed with a straight face when 99% of their video are clips from episode 9 (even then most of it being foreshadowing is a LONG stretch. The few non episode 9 clips are not good evidence either, Jax saying ladies first before pushing Gangle is just him bullying her, Caine saying they hate their bodies applies to everyone, The first thing Pomni did was start pulling on her face even though she is a girl in a feminine body and everyone seems to have a period of disorientation as they get used to their cartoon body. Missing a tail is just a funny joke about people not noticing minor details.

Also the comments are pretty funny:
