I wont defend it. It's clearly a mistake, and a grave one at that.

All I can say is that its an unfortunate side effect of human work.

Without power leveling too much, I can say that I have significant ties to multiple individuals in the medical profession. That's a job where human error results in death, and in that regard policing shares a similarity. Humans are not perfect beings, and because of that immutable fact of existence we cannot have human police officers without accepting the reality that error can result in innocent deaths.

Therefore this incident transcends a matter of individual defense, and speaks to a greater systemic concept. Unless you want to surrender the existence of humans policing other humans, instances such as this are, unfortunately, inevitable.
