I've actually done this before coincidentally, and yes, the stripper clips are a slow reload. My friend was shooting his M4A1, and I was shooting a Yugo SKS, and we did 2 mags/clips of 10 rounds together, and he was able to finish both mags just as I chambered the first round of the second clip.
