Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Hatred and jealousy, mainly by feminists and troons.

Yeah, females and troons took over Nexus mods and you will get banned for posting a mod that adds new quests or outfits for a female character but mods that make male character like James Vega in ME3 shirtless are fine.

Games in general have just been screwed by women and trannies and I have given up on them.

I will never buy a new game again as long as I live.

There are still so many amazing older games pre-2015 with no woke (I really can’t stand that word tbh) nonsense that you can experience.

Exactly and I can find them all for a couple of bucks at my local flea market and don't have to give the tranny rights holders a penny.

This is what makes keeping a DvD drive hooked up to my computer worth it.

I hope all the game publishers go bankrupt.

Of course there are still great modern titles like Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom, but stuff pre-2015 I find to be safer and more appealing.

The big thing with Kojima is that the best moments of MGS were always made by someone else, he for sure knows a thing or 2, but the general impression I get is that he's a brainlet and a half who has the talent to pull people who know what they are doing out of a hat. Still better than any of the other directors running around Triple A.
Oh cool so he's what people thought George Lucas was

I think GTA6 is going to suck. That’s not the unpopular opinion. The unpopular opinion is: with the nature of the modern games economy and with how much other games are rescheduling their releases around GTA6 like it’s 2013, I believe GTA6 is going to fail so spectacularly as to create an actual market crash.

Quake 2 and SiN are better than Half-Life. Mainly because they're actually FPS games, not First-Person-Riddles-With-Shooting, even if Half-Life is more "technologically impressive" (Even doe Goldsrcs is a shitty distributive of the Quake Engine that bugs out due to having so much stuff cramped into it).

These are hideous. I hate them. I don't care what anyone says. Well Suicune is kinda alright but his face looks awful from the front and the butt streamers aren't doing him any favors.

I don't think GTA6 failing will cause a market crash, but I do agree with you that it would fail. All the major AAA studios at best can make something passable, it's the AA that's been making the real bangers. But with the western AAA dev culture as it is, I'm not expecting much. It'll be a miracle if GTA6 turns out to be decent, much less good.

tl;dr steam is the #1 booster of turning everything into live service crap as the most effective form of drm, which is in fact actually true, it's so much harder to spoof battlepass provision and lootbox drops than crack a key

WOW I'M SO GLAD MY GAME IS SHITTED UP WITH CONSTANT INESCAPABLE SHITDROPS IN THE ACTUAL GAMEPLAY, THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE BAD OLD DAYS OF NEEDING A CD KEY OR WHATEVER, THANK YOU GABEN TRULY YOU ARE BLESSED AMONG (FAT) MEN

Paying $20 a year for Nintendo Online isn't nearly as bad as naysayers cry about it being. Would you prefer it by the month, like everything, so you can bitch about paying for one more thing a month?

Nintendo reserves its right to protect its IPs. You didn't make Mario, Link, Pikachu/Pokemon .etc so get the fuck over it. Palworld is just some unimaginative piece of shit thought by assholes who still live off of dumb high school ideas such as giving pokemon-like creatures the ability to wield guns.

Whether you're not selling your fan game is not the point, it comes down to infringing on a copyright you knowingly did not make. Copyright Infringement is violating a copyright without the permission of the holder, such as Nintendo's. Armchair lawyers on the internet believe "uhhhhhhh ackshully, as long as I'm not making money, I can have Samus Aran eating out Princess Daisy in my shitty porn visual novel I'm making!"

The Steam Machine, once its out, will be an overpriced box of junk that'll grow obsolete within a few months to a year. Valve fanboys will fall over themselves buying it anyways to pledge their loyalty to Gaben as they do buying Steam games they won't ever play (nor will getting a Steam Machine will help with that, they'll still play the same 3 shitty games).
Unpopular opinions, not absolute dogshit opinions.

The older I get, the more I realize Josh Sawyer is completely right about RPG romances. I have yet to see one that is actually well-written and isn't just ego stroking about how cool the protagonist is. Even the ones that people always gush about how good they are (cyberpunk), makes me feel like I'm just playing with dolls.

What I will NEVER understand is how CS ended up ultimately winning as a competitive game over Quake.....hell, the BEST FPSes to play online from the golden era were AvP2 and Jedi Knight 2+3 as those offered helluva fresh additions to the plain and simple core of the genre unlike literally anything else.

ALL launchers mustdie. Period. If I'm spending fucking money on my now purely digital product, I want to click the .exe and go about my business instead of having to fucking launch a launcher, wait to the fucking thing to update, find a tab inside with my installed games, find the game I want from a big list, and then have the fucking thing always be open in the background draining resources away from the game itself.

From business standpoint - Valve managed a miracle, even if GoG basically managed the same thing. From going from decent game dev to a pure cancerous marketplace launcher bullshit and ignoring continuing to make their own games - absolute faggotry.

Blaming Valve for microtransactions and always online games is kind of retarded. That disclaimer wasn't some hidden instruction that suddenly gave shitty game companies an epiphany to add MTX and limited-time events to their games. Rather, its pointing out the obvious fact that a person wouldn't have any reason to buy your game when he can just download it online for free if there's nothing incentivizing him to buy it legally. That's the unfortunate truth of selling a product made of easily-reproducible digital nothing and applies to every game development firm, from single-person independent developers to billion dollar companies.

Besides, those money-making practices originated with MMOs, which solidified their moneymaking concepts, peaked, then cratered in relevance before Valve even released the first CSGO skin. Memberships, daily quests, expansions, limited-time events, item trading, all of that existed and was proven to be lucrative LONG beforehand, and there's more evidence pointing to the big mobile game boom of the early late 2000's-2010's with shitty little games like Clash of Clans or Farmville making billions off of similar practices and utterly dwarfing the console and PC markets in terms of revenue being the root cause. Seeing all that money up for the taking would have motivated Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and everyone else to start forcing MTX and engagement schemes into their own games more than anything that could have come out of Gabe's fat mouth.

I won't disagree that Valve's own success with hats, skins, cards, etc. contributed to the expansion of these bad practices, but they certainly weren't the first and they're far from the biggest offenders in the market. It's like blaming the pinning the spread of AID's on the heroin needle when it was really the guy who fucked a chimp 50 years ago.

quake snowballs harder than a DOTA match. the player is simply too powerful. CS has a lot more of a rock paper scissors approach to soft balance while still keeping the core of clicking heads and mastering the movement system

Game company does something to get your money: WTF THIS IS ANTI CONSUMER

Valve does the same thing, bigger, faster, and harder: omg gaben just loves us gamers :christine:

Like with mtx and lootboxes, sure, other companies do them, but that's literally all Valve has. They can't be bothered to release a new game...just reskin counterstrike and turn it into a gacha game. Somehow the thing everyone says they hate becomes the best thing ever when Valve does it.

Like the other exploitative slopware companies give you a new game once in a while. Gabe Newell says, "best I got is reslopping 2fort" and gamers leap on his dick.

Valve weren't the first at the shit they did, but they were the ones to show that it could work. I cant really think of any of their innovations that were a net positive. Even the easy auto patches as before you had to hunt for patches on websites and bittorrent was new so you had to download these big files in one go ended up a double edged sword as devs can break games, make games work, erase content and there isnt anything you can do about it. Valve is no stranger to this, I remember when they updated shader support for Source I wanna say 09-10ish it made it so on my rig that none of those games worked anymore. Not to mention the countless Half Life 1 updates that change random shit for no reason.

And the store itself, discontinuing OS support has decimated its library. And there is a good chance that if a game no longer runs its still for sale on the store. Valve doesnt give a shit about the customer, their audience are their f2p whales and their stranglehold on digital distribution.
