FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of fatally stabbing another teen, Austin Metcalf, at a Frisco track meet, has been indicted on a murder charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted Anthony on Tuesday, according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. A murder charge is punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison.

Anthony, a 17-year-old former student of Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Frisco Memorial High School student athlete Austin Metcalf in April at a track meet in Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium. He was released from jail later that month after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Anthony has claimed self defense in the case, which garnered national attention, heightening racial tensions and raising security concerns among everyone connected to the case, including both families and Judge Angela Tucker, who is presiding over the case.

"We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond," Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement Tuesday. "That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core. But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That’s what we’re committed to. And that’s exactly what this case deserves."

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, called Tuesday's indictment "an expected and routine step in the legal process."

"Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial," Howard said. "Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court. It's only in a trial that a jury will hear the full story, one that includes critical facts and context that the grand jury simply didn't get to hear."

Howard again raised Anthony's self defense claim in his statement Tuesday.

"We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self defense," Howard said. "Self defense is a fundamental right guaranteed every American."

Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, told WFAA in a statement that he's "pleased that we are moving forward."

“With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system," Jeff Metcalf said. "I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.“

Under his bond conditions, Anthony is required to wear an ankle monitor and ask permission to leave his home. If Anthony violates any conditions of his bond, he will have to return to jail. He graduated and received his high school diploma in May, but did not attend the ceremony, WFAA previously reported.

Anthony allegedly confessed to the stabbing immediately after he was arrested, claiming he was defending himself from Metcalf, officials said, as WFAA previously reported.

A witness reportedly told police that Metcalf told Anthony he had to move out from under the Memorial High School tent. Anthony responded by opening his bag and reaching inside, WFAA previously reported.

"Touch me and see what happens," Anthony told Metcalf, according to a witness.

Metcalf reportedly then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen. Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf reportedly grabbed Anthony to tell him to move. At which point, the affidavit continues, Anthony reportedly pulled out what the witness recalled as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.

The deep tension sparked by the incident has raised concerns that the case may be tried outside of Collin County. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the judge will make that decision at the time of trial.

Yet another teen witness this should be the last witness for the day

The prosecution called a fourth minor witness to the stand, a 17-year-old from Memorial High School.

The witness said he has a twin brother who also attends Memorial High School.

The witness describes getting to the track meet by taking the team bus that day.

He says he knew Austin as a team leader on both track and football teams at Memorial and that they played the same position in football.

The witness testified that because he thought Karmelo had something in his hand in his backpack he told Austin "don't touch him."

He went on to describe the contact Austin had with Karmelo as a "touch" that used two hands, not aggressively, but trying to move Karmelo.

The witness said Hunter, Austin's twin brother, played no role in the incident and only went to his brother's aide after he was stabbed.

"Do you think Karmelo Anthony acted in self-defense that day?" The prosecution asked.

"No, sir," the witness said.

"Did Austin [Metcalf] want to fight that day?" The prosecution asked.

"No, sir," the witness said.

The state then passes on the witness.

Mike Howard, one of Anthony's defense attorneys, begins his cross-examination...

Howard asks the witness about how Austin stood up. The witness testified that Austin went up a row and over a couple steps to get to Karmelo.

The witness went on to say that Karmelo put his hand in his backpack when things started to get more aggressive. He said took that as a serious warning, like "Hey I've got something. Don't come near me."

The defense began showing the witness the transcript of his video with investigators when he seemed to have said he did, in fact, stand up. On the stand moments before, the witness testified that he stayed seated the entire time.

The witness then said he, Austin, adn Hunter were all standing.

This is the first time it's been said that this many people were standing during the escalation.

The witness then testified that Austin "grabbed" Karmelo, which "knocks [his] body back" but then said as soon as Austin touched Karmelo, he stabbed Austin.

The witness was excused from the stand, but is subject to recall.

The jury was then taken into the hallway.

I think I'm gonna post fox5 on this one also

The next witness was another 17-year-old Memorial student who plays football and runs track. He testified that the Metcalf twins had been somewhere else, possibly warming up or at the concession stand, and then came back to the tent. When they got back, they talked to people at the front of the tent and then saw Anthony.

The student said it was starting to rain. He recalled seeing Anthony behind Memorial’s section of the bleachers. He "dabbed somebody up" and was "minding his own business," the witness testified.

The witness testified that Metcalf asked Anthony to leave "nice at first and things heated up from there." He remembered hearing Anthony say, "Touch me and see what happens."

This witness also saw Anthony’s hand in his backpack and heard him tell Metcalf, "Don’t touch me." The witness testified that he was worried because it appeared as though Anthony was holding something.

He recalled seeing Metcalf "touch" Anthony on his shoulder with two hands "kind of moving him," and then Anthony "stabbed him in the chest."

He said he didn’t think there would be a fight because Metcalf was a bigger guy and was trying to be nice about it. But he said Anthony wasn’t cooperating or listening. He described Anthony as getting "worked up."

The teen said he didn’t know Anthony.

Like the students before him, he testified that he didn’t think the action was self-defense and he didn’t think Metcalf wanted to fight that day.

this kid says he actually thought Anthony had something in his backpack. Interestingly he is a twin also. This is the first witness who has said that there were more than just Austin standing up. All the other witnesses said that everyone except Austin was sitting down. He is also I think the only one that it has been mentioned is subject to recall.

This is an observant kid according to the daily mail

The student said he directly told Metcalf not to touch Anthony and saw something that made him fear for Metcalf.

'The vein in his arm was visible. It looked like he was grabbing something,' the student said of Anthony, despite his hand being in his backpack.

Ultimately, the teen said that Metcalf 'was a bigger guy and he tried to be nice about it.'

'I was in disbelief.'

if he noticed the vein and muscle bulging in his arm from grabbing something he's more observant and aware than most adults

One thing is certain, after this trial, the Metcalf family will need to relocate for their safety. No matter the outcome, at the end of the day, a promising high school athlete was brutally slain by a sociopathic thief while their family fundraised $250,000 from an obvious crime. That family will never be the same ever again.

More stories like this will keep happening until somebody would put their foot down and answer the obvious question with extreme prejudice.

Yall. Be prepared to put your whiteness on the line defending black outrage over self defense being thrown out the door if you're black. That white THUG laid hands on him with a shove. His momma shouldve taught that kid better than to act like a thug. Fuck around and find out. Get out there and push back against your Nazi leaders for allowing this travesty. I would too but I'm Jewish.

Thanks for the updates to the trial.

I can now say with 100% certainty that the 1 reason this isn't being televised is it blows up the "Out of Africa" Theory of modern humanity origins.

Karmelo doesn't come from a "broken" family but a true Nuclear family lifestyle. Yet he still chimps the frak out and murders a boy for no reason whatsoever.

As it stands, thanks to Social Media, we the bystanders are seeing that AA's are standing behind this murderer no matter what.

The fatigue levels will overload during this trial.

To be fair to the defense, it sounds like that lame "oh the other boy was bigger and he totally cried after" is all they have to work with, given that the murder has tons of witnesses and the idiot ditched the knife and made very self-indicting statements to the cops. Which doesn't bode well for them unless a woman in the jury got damp looking at Karmelo, in which case he's already free and none of this matters.

There's a pretty big hole in the prosecution's argument. Karmelo is obviously a nigger. Upon seeing the white boy fall to the ground after being stabbed, no nigger currently alive would be able to resist kicking the downed victim in the head while ooking and eeking.

It's just part of their culture.

One woman, who states that she was there to report, shared that if evidence shows that Anthony was not acting in self-defense, she does not believe the Black community would accept that, stating that “they stand by ours regardless.”

A Black minister standing outside of the courthouse stated that the American justice system is the “final frontier of racism and it’s legalized here.”
These are the people with their panties in a wad about there being no blacks on the jury.
I fucking hate it when stupid people don’t know they’re stupid, and have been raised to believe everything bad that happens to them is because of ‘the man’.

he and his family are truly retarded & delusional
I noticed earlier in the thread that Karmelo’s dad is/was a finance manager at a car dealership.
“So, DeShawn, that’s nothing down and $2200 a month for twelve years for the 2014 Hellcat with the 110,000 miles…”
Just another nigger preying on other niggers.

The witness told the jury that the interaction had nothing to do with race
How is it not about race?
Which race is the one that chimps out over the smallest issue?
Which race constantly escalates traffic tickets to death sentences?
Which race burns down entire fucking cities over a dead nigger they would have killed themselves had he stepped on their Air Jordans?
Which race kill each other in mind boggling numbers over dumb shit like wearing the wrong colors in the wrong ‘hood?
Which race is responsible for the majority of violent crime, including mass shootings and serial killers?
When people hear about a kid being stabbed to death at a track meet over fucking nothing, do they ever assume the stabber is anything but black?

If Karmelo had been a middle class white kid, would Austin Metcalf not still be alive?
“You need to leave the tent, you’re not from our school.”
“Oh, sorry, okay- I was just getting out of the rain. I’ll leave if you insist but I’d appreciate it if I could stay until the rain slacks off a bit. I’m Karl Anthony, by the way.”
“I guess that’d be okay then, I’ll stick by you until the rain breaks a bit and you can head back to your own school’s tent.”

Niggers are so goddamn socially maladjusted that they literally cannot comprehend how basic respect, politeness and civility will get you what you want nine times out of ten.
