He was very unapproachable in grade/high school if the anecdotal evidence we've heard from those around him is true. They paint a picture of a bitter egoist, unwilling to accept or even entertain the very notion, of criticism because he's surrounded by idiots who don't appreciate his STYLE.

I'm willing to bet most of his art ability was self-taught on the back of school notebooks and he only grudgingly modified it to pass school (his ego assuring him he was perfect, school was just to get credentials, not to learn) and went right back to his old ways upon graduating.

And now he bitches and moans ad nauseam because the world is full of the same jerks in high school who didn't appreciate his STYLE and are denying him the asspats, six figure income and hookers he believes himself due.

If I paid for it, and he wasn't using it, I'd be more than a bit peeved as a parent, assuming that's who got the bill. You don't hear him moaning about student loans.

The fact that Dobson genuinely seems to think that this is how a compassionate human being tried to cheer someone up is laughably sad. Seriously, imagine if you're having a rough day and some random person walks up to you and says something like this to you. I'm pretty sure most people would probably just roll their eyes and walk off. And he probably spent half an hour patting himself on the back and fantasizing about how much he's made her day and she immediately went over to her friends and told them about this progressive and compassionate cartoonist that offered his hand to her during such a dark time and they all sang hearty songs celebrating him.

I suspect I already know the answer to this but does Dobson have any real life friends? I think a lot of cows like Dobson could massively improve their outlook on life if they just spent a day a week doing activities in person with another human being.

I will agree with Dobson on one thing: Everything CAN be art, depending on the circumstances it is created. I mean, if we take into consideration that art is also a craft, a craftman like a toy designer or someone who makes jewelry is an artist. Heck, some of the greatest works of art were the result of some renowed craftman being hired by someone to just paint something. Just looka t some of the Renaissance artists.

If you are to accept the notion that "everything can be art", you'd better temper it with this qualifier: but not all art is created equal. Indeed, craftsmanship is coming back with a vengeance in the post-postmodern art world -- after all, when everything that someone happens to shit out is "art", and any criteria for bestowing merit are being questioned and "deconstructed" to oblivion, the only objective standard that people can talk about is: how hard it is to make something very much like it? Originality is redefined as being impossible to copy.

On topic: Dobson is a bad craftsman and he even sucks as being a copier.
