Leftists wanted punching bag cuck Christians forever. Then Trump was willing to fight back by sinking to a 10th of their level, for which they think him the rudest crudest president ever, and it has resonated with voters and gotten results. They really are afraid of Republicans saying "Turn the other cheek doesn't work anymore, we need results!" They certainly aren't concerned with Homelander=Trump replacing Jesus, they're afraid of their enemy hitting back.
I haven't actually watched the show, though what few snippets I've seen make me think Homelander is by far the most popular character on the show and that scares the fucking shit out of them too, because as you said he's obviously supposed to be Trump w/superpowers and everyone's supposed to hate him.
IIRC the Season 4 finale gave them an even bigger scare owing to the last scene, where Homelander introduces his son to the public for the first time, and some shithead chucks a milkshake at the kid's head or something. In response, Homelander immediately melts the guy's fucking head with his laser-beam eyes in a calm, quiet rage. What the actual fuck did the dumb bastard expect to happen by hitting the kid? The crowd stands stunned for a moment, until one anxious nerdish-looking guy laughs and starts applauding, and then the crowd joins in. A surprised Homelander smiles, happy the crowd sees things his way and accepts his decision.
This was
supposed to be a big "gotcha" moment, showing how a crowd can be cowed into supporting a brutal bully under threat of death or whatever. But it because the favorite, most-watched scene in the entire season because of how good and realistic it was. As you say, it's another unintentionally-accurate portrayal. Nowhere on this green earth (except in blue cuckzones) is there a father who would tolerate a stranger throwing something at his child's head. Any healthy human being will immediately retaliate, and healthy human beings witnessing it
will completely support the father's decision and actions. It makes sense they'd quadruple-down on making Homelander cartoonishly evil in Season 5 to try to trap the audience again.
It's just so fucking tone-deaf that they believed it would be a "gotcha." Healthy people care about their kids. Healthy people defend themselves their families from attackers. Healthy people understand both these things and openly support people who defend their own families from physical threats. Healthy people do not physically attack other people's children. Healthy people absolutely would not -- even in an imaginary world with literal superheroes in it -- physically strike a child in the presence of his violently evil father and expect anything but death in response.
These dumbasses didn't get the memo: literally everybody supported Gary Plauché when he ambushed, shot and killed his son's sexual abuser as he was being escorted through an airport terminal to face trial. That was premeditated (i.e. first-degree) murder, and everyone applauded. His entire community rallied behind him and made it
very clear to the arrogant, self-styled overlords of the court system there that Gary was not to be punished for defending his own fucking child. Said court obeyed and avoided its own brand of self-inflicted suffering.
I love it when Hollywood accidentally makes brilliant television and film, resonating with "the wrong people" in exactly the opposite way they'd intended (
Joker did the same thing, and when they tried to punish that audience in the sequel, it just led to a flop and lots of mockery instead). And instead of learning from it, they just cry harder, insult more people and carry right on stepping on rakes for our amusement.
