💤 Inactive Andrew Dobson / Tom Preston / CattyN - STOP DOING SEXIST CRAP

Guys, don't you know? Whatever your job is, it's okay to do it poorly because it saves you time and energy. Also you should never criticize people for cutting corners and doing a sloppy job, because that makes them scared of doing it again for fear of getting caught, and this is somehow a bad thing.

Anyway if you didn't know this guy is Adam Ellis, he makes cringe-worthy as fuck comics for Buzzfeed (https://imgur.com/a/m1oRN#Iy9bFlK). And yeah he's well known for copy-pasting. Not only his self-insert character, but all his characters are literally the same face with different hairstyles, and everyone has the same lifeless expression of surprise all the time:

Lazy as fuck artist, makes unfunny comics, but still manages to make a living as a cartoonist by pandering to SJWs? It's no wonder this guy is Dobson's inspiration.

I can understand when animation does it, because they are on a time and budget crunch to get episodes out (and even then, they do vary things up). But in the medium of Webcomics, unless you're doing daily strips, you have no excuses not to change expressions and designs.

Of course, this is Dobson we're speaking of here. He'd probably defend Tim Buckley if he could. And even disregarding the "defense", Dobson's literally guilty of making everyone either smug as shit or outright pissed off, even when that isn't the intention.

To be fair Buckley and the other guy have a way better work ethic than Dobson. Also they both have a better grasp of humour, Beeing merely not funny as opposed to.....their isn't really a word for how bad Dobsons jokes are. The closest frame of reference is considering how entropy will consume everything in the end.

I dunno about the other guy, but Buckley's stuff for me was always kind of like Family Guy. Most of it was brainless unfunny crap, but it got maybe one actual laugh a month. Practically by accident he might make something worth at least a chuckle, if it were a relatively simple joke and he didn't futz up the delivery too bad. (A laugh a month is still being incredibly generous but eh.)

The number of times Andrew, in all of his years of drawing comics, has actually gotten a positive response out of me in any way can probably be counted on one hand. Hell, he should have been able to average at least a laugh every other month just by ripping off someone funnier's jokes. But he's so unintelligent and lazy that his delivery of jokes from more clever people gets bungled into being unintelligible. Like Chris and his (lack of) understanding of Family Guy's "random access humor", Andrew can't understand why most things are funny, clever, or supposedly witty, so he just bungles through the half-assed delivery.

By this point, I think my Let's Sperg threads have gotten more laughs out of people then Dobson's crap.

At least B^Uckley can kind of write a character with personality (even if they are pretty much cookie-cutter) and the other dude actually updates his shit fairly regularly.

The sad thing is if Dobson had the work ethic of Buckley he'd probally be the better artist by now and also be quite famous as a webcomic artist but as it stands he's went from:

Thanks to whoever shared the Angelfish dump, but I don't recall Dobson ever dabbling in video game production.

I thought it was an ad for GameMaker at first but no, Dobson has created several "games" and "tutorials".

I can't check these right now but if anyone wants to take a look that would be great.

So he has some working knowledge of C/C++. Who'd have thunk...

Oh wait. "Game Maker".

Wow, I'm actually shocked by how much Buckley's improved.

Andrew should be even more ashamed because of that. Well, that and that his only art fan is an autistic otter.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Buckley might actually be a better artist at this point than Dobson. I mean it's not great but it's actually pretty decent, plus it looks like some actual effort went into it.

There's a detailed background in that last panel so Buckley wins by default against Gradients-are-Backgrounds-too-Dobson.

OT but whoa, Buckley has improved a lot. I remember actually reading CAD back in the day. It was never that great but offered some chuckles now and then. Then came"Loss" and I kinda stopped reading it. However Dobby never had even that. His comics sucked from the very beginning.

I dont think art has ever really been buckleys issue. Like yeah, its not great, but i think for a daily comic its pretty decent.

Buckleys problem has always been that his jokes were waaaaaaaay too wordy for their own good.

As someone pointed out comparing "Loss" and the comic whatsisface recently made parodying it (widely agreed upon as the first completely and objectively unfunny Loss Edit), even in that pile of shit Buckley actually had a few things going for him. He managed to convey a story completely in four panels with no text, no speech bubbles, just poses and expressions, which aren't exactly his strong point. The comic itself isn't even what people are mocking when they do Loss Edits, it's the jarring way it doesn't fit in with the tone of the rest of the comic or the characters, the way Buckley made himself sound like a monster in the commentary that went with the comic, all the rest of it. "Loss" itself isn't objectively bad... had it been in a different comic with different characters, even at the same artistic level it would have likely been lightly praised (and ultimately forgotten).

I'd say Andrew is objectively inferior to Buckley in practically every way but then I did remember that Andrew has never showed his dick to a teenager. Probably more from lack of opportunity than from moral fiber but eh I guess we've still gotta give it to him.

It was also bad in that Buckley had dumbly written himself into a corner where there was going to be a baby in it, then basically realized he had no clue what to do with a baby so he just murdered it. There was no real point in the whole sequence and it wasn't funny except in how bad it was.

No, Dobson just preferred to blow up teenage girls and then jack off to it. It's better in the sense that there aren't Dobson n00dz on the internet, but he still gets off to the violent, if cartoony, death of teenage girls.
