They are running out of money they got from investments at the start of the platform. They used the contracts to try to attract and retain more market share. They planned to run at a loss while they built up an audience, but there are limits to how effective a strategy is and how long you can run at a loss to gain goodwill.

As much as I would laugh if Nick were the reason, there is a more boring business reason.
