This person also trashed someone's lot (before today) and the admins were fighting with her way before the personality system that's why they were arguing over in general chat.

I have now read the thread thoroughly, and while I can appreciate a good cup of tea, the reality is far more complex than the idea that the personality system brought XSO down.

I have been playing XSO since nearly day one, which makes me part of its lore, for better or worse.

The first point that needs to be clarified is regarding mindreboot. This individual is a player, not an admin, moderator, or member of the support staff. At no point was he officially presented as such. His Discord screenshots should therefore be understood as those of a player arguing with other players. While it appears he may have contributed in some capacity to the personality system, this is not unusual. They have previously accepted content contributions from players such as Brandon and Deak, both of whom were tagged in patch notes for everyone to see. That said, his proximity to the admins does raise some questions. I personally found much of what he had to say obnoxious, somewhat similar to Aquila, if you know, you know.

As for the personality system itself, it was neither particularly good nor particularly bad. It was functional but clearly underdeveloped. The implementation felt rushed, and it would have benefited from further refinement prior to release. Like most new systems, the backlash was short lived. Within a couple of days, aside from two players, everyone had adapted, earned their personality points, and moved on. After about a day of grinding, I earned enough points for my Sim’s needs to decay slower than usual, which felt like a good enough outcome for me. Ultimately, the system did not significantly enhance or harm the gameplay experience. It was not a groundbreaking feature and could have been skipped entirely.

I should also address the tax system, since it was brought up. The tax was 0.1% per day, not 1%. When I first heard about it, I hated it, but in practice it was not that bad. The money did not simply disappear. It was redistributed in the form of grants to mayors and used for large cash prize events, meaning it eventually went back to the players. I would have been far more critical if the money had simply vanished, which many of us initially assumed would happen.

Turning to the admin team, Daat tends to be reactive, but he is also responsive to community feedback. I have had arguments with him before, admittedly sometimes to provoke a reaction and stir chaos in general chat. Despite that, he still made changes to address player feedback. Some of those changes improved the game, while others did not. I do not think he had much choice but to respond to feedback, as ignoring it would likely have driven players away over time. This was the general consensus among regular players.

I do not believe the shutdown of XSO was caused by negative reactions to the personality system. The community has always been highly critical, with strong opinions on nearly every update, whether it involved the magic system, farming, chickens, or other gameplay features. The level of outcry was often comparable. If the team had been unable to handle criticism, the project would have ended long ago.

One of the early signs that something was awry with XSO was the sudden disappearance of one of the admins, known as “Sneaky” on Discord. This was never properly explained. The only response given was that he was “missing in action.” This lack of transparency suggests the possibility of internal conflict within the team. His last known post was over 2 months ago.

1776797013401.png

Now let's turn to Sorta, known as "Savaki" on discord. Sorta had a reputation for being relentless on multi-accounting cases, perhaps too relentless... Players who were caught in the crossfire of investigations didn't always feel like they got a fair hearing. Sorta was also known has the person who did most of the XSO Wiki. On the wiki front, while it was initially good, updates became noticeably sparse and lately no updates were added on the new systems which may yet again point to admin internal conflict.

1776797087550.png

Additionally, I obtained information from a trusted personal source that the project may have come into contact with a former FSO admin who allegedly has connections to EA and this individual pressured XSO into shutting down. This claim cannot be verified, but it remains a possible factor.

Given the timing, the personality system does not align with the shutdown. Two updates followed its release, indicating continued development, before the project abruptly ended. This points to a deeper underlying mystery, most likely internal conflict among the admins or external pressure from EA, both of which I will leave us to speculate upon or gather more evidence.

Great posts, thank you!

I have looked through wikis for these games and The Sims Online has some really bad and inconsistent wiki work.

external pressure from EA
This makes very little sense to me. Why would EA bother with XenoSO when Sim Nation is straight up stealing their lunch? It seems like internal strife. Or a team that was not as strong as they appeared. I wonder if the rollout of the personality system prompted a few rounds of "I told you so" within the dev team and that set people off.

It is an oddity.

@Demon Mist what do you know?

If I had to bet, I would also bet on the side of internal strife, although I would still not pin it on the personality system because the events don't line up.

I cannot verify the EA claim for certain, it's an account relayed by someone who could very well be wrong, either way I figured I'd lay out all possibilities.

The disappearance of their admin "Sneaky" took place way before the personality system, 2 months before to be exact and the wiki not being properly updated was happening also way before the personality system (for instance their entire flower gardening system was never updated, etc). The fact that all wiki links and site pages have now been torn down rather than simply left up also raises questions, most servers that close just leave their sites intact.

So for those of us who were more observant, the cracks were showing way before the personality system took place and to me it seemed evident that there was trouble in paradise among the team as of some time now, what exactly caused that strife we can only speculate on.

Very interesting theories. Don't suppose there are any receipts about strife between the staff? I never noticed anything out in the open. In the end it looks like it was just Daat, Sorta, Mr. Teddy and Merabor as official staff, and Daat said this:

1776892195726.png

So the strife had to be between Daat and Sorta if that's the case? Someone said this out in the open:

1776894898859.png

I'm going through the chat history and Daat and Sorta did not reply to nttChris. The next reply came from Daat literally a few lines below that:

1776894997377.png

So nothing about what nttChris said. Later Mr. Teddy said this:

1776895042699.png

But Daat and Sorta only reacted. Neither of them commented. Am I reading too much into this?

And for the EA theory, I found these two from Daat since the shutdown was announced:

1776892433100.png
1776892449513.png

The first one was when the server went offline for a bit and the second one when I think a link broke on their website but it's strange that both were from Daat and he had not really mentioned EA before. The last time he mentioned EA was September and it was just something about EA Land.

I'm grasping at straws here but maybe EA is fresh in his mind? The plot thickens.

So I don't believe we'll ever find any type of direct evidence for the conflict they probably were having, because they are so elusive and secret about everything that pertains to internal admin affairs. They were not really the type of admins that mingled along with players and shared any critical internal info, which is well a shame, we'd have solid screenshot evidence otherwise.

1776916077718.png

Every time someone tries to pry too deep into their business it's always met with a deflective or elusive answer, sometimes a joke. Even now with XSO ending you can't get a straight answer out of any of them, it's all just diplomatic BS, they're not really telling us what happened.

1776916147998.png

There are facts that we can lean on though that support this idea and certain patterns that you can pick up on, specially from Daat. So I've been saying the "Sneaky" admin vanished with no trace and no explanation. He was actually very active, if you played from day 1, he was always present at events and providing people with tech support. Suddenly he vanished, about 2 months ago and Daat's response when asked about him is he's just missing in action. No one really has any clues as to what happened here either, which again shows how elusive they can be with internal ongoings.

This fact alone made some players start thinking something was up, like your screenshot proves nttcris and others started thinking there has to be conflict among the admins.

1776916255474.png

What's more, Daat followed a very similar pattern in regards to Sorta, when asked why the Wiki was not being updated he says "she's away", she was in fact not away, I saw her in-game and online. This points to them probably having had a fight and he just deflected any inquiries on it by saying she's away, much like he says "Sneaky" is missing in action, there's a pattern here.

1776916433191.png

Now what happens when the team is supposed to be 3 main admins and 2 support staff and 2 of them are "away", bad things of course...

Now for the EA theory, I know, I know, SimNation...more like Patreon Nation was reported directly to EA via official channels and nothing happened, but here's some very strange facts, my source tells me that who ever pressured them was some sort of petty revenge deal, because someone from FSO really hates XSO, in fact they have often said they were all banned from FSO discord. And this former admin now EA employee just pulled some strings to screw with them somehow.

1776916316427.png

The strangest part of all of this is the fact that their website, wiki and domain is wiped out overnight with error 404. You know what could have done this? A DMCA claim on their domain..and apparently Sorta had one link for downloading the patch up and it was taken down the following day, something is very strange about this.

Again, thanks for all the work @Jay Quellin and @jabroni99.

DramaSO getting a bunch more traffic is a pretty interesting development. That client runs way more lean than XSO anyway. But there's going to be a bunch of people that will never ever ever play DSO. Wonder if they'll go back to SN... but then a bunch will never ever ever go back to SN, either. Probably going to be some fun drama out of this as different groups are forced back together again.

I loved your post @jabroni99, you obviously knew the xenoso community really well. Also WOW they took down EVERYTHING even though the server is technically still up until sunday. What the fuck are they hiding??? Even all the discord channels were deleted. They made a new general chat channel just now but it's empty. This is shady af. I think you're right and this goes deeper than just strife between the admins.

What a sad way to go and be remembered by.

Breaking news! Look at what Daat just posted:

1776960130244.png

That was right after people were saying their gooodbyes. I am convinced now that this had to do with EA and the rotten FSO admins. That sucls for them, things were going well for xenoso. That also explains why Daat said he wasn't gonna make the code open source for other servers to use. He must be PISSED and with good reason.

Wow! I can't believe he actually made mention of any legal action. I love that you snapped that real quick because it seems he caught himself and edited it...

1776966929032.png

This is super tragic and a whole new precedent for what could happen to any server now. I wonder if they're in actual legal trouble or if it was just a cease and desist or a DMCA, most like just a targeted hit to take them down, taking things to court costs too much money...either way this seems like undeniable proof!

Crazy! Yeah if they had shut down because of admin strife or drama that's one thing but this is shitty. Whichever bitch FSO admin did this must feel very pleased with themselves. Wonder if they'll go after Patreon Nation next.

Did XSO shut down their Discord or did I get banned? Is there a way to get back in?
Anyone know?
WTF its gone! Still people playing but the discord is gone:

1777014370815.png

Weirdest fucking shutdown I've ever seen. I guess thats the end of xenoso. Holy shit.

Update: I asked around and some people are still there. Guess we got banned lmao

Ostatnio edytowane:
So that is it? XenoSO is gone? Or was it just their discord?

Also how did they ban you?

I think they shut down early. The simfinder doesnt even show anything:

1777143211284.png

The only thing thats still up is their discord but with just a few people and one channel with no history. They demolished any trace that xenoso ever existed so it had to be a DMCA takedown.

Brutal.

Still sounds petty and childish though. I am not convinced on the DMCA front. They just sound like losers.

But my question is why spend all that time working on it to then shut it down in less than a year and nuke any trace that it ever existed. I can't remember who but one of them said the discord would be read only and the general chat would be left open. I think they said something like we wouldn't do that to you and then the next day they deleted everything. So it still feels like a DMCA takedown to me.

But now that we're all in dramaso, the main complaint I think was that it was too easy to make money and skill like a mini Patreon Nation. So today Morgue announced that they are nerfing solar panels and skill speeds:

1777397248158.png

And there's a consistent player base like 30+ average. I think more than xenoso had, maybe because it's the new shiny toy. No drama so far even though the name is dramaso lmao but I will report if anything happens.
