I haven't cared for Doctor Who since Matt Smith's second series, but with the downturn of writing as of late, I'm worried that making the Doctor a Woman might lead to too much self congratulatory back patting and a nod and a wink of See How Progressive We Are!

So, I'm basically worried that it turns into Ghostbusters 2016 due to the writer being a hack.

This is splendid. They've been threatening this on and off since the reboot began, and those madmen finally pulled the trigger. At least he's not a ginger.

I only hope now that this new season has them really ramming the gender inverted will-they-wont-they companion love arc down everyone's throat. I'm talking about some real shit eating writing.

The complaining is going to be glorious.

holy fucking halibut these "articles" are just strings of autistic tweets from literal nobodies mixed with some snarky low-effort namecalling. "pissboys"? great one, champ. that's why they pay you the big bucks. fucking "journalism" in the current year i swear. these dumb cunts prove on an hourly basis that they're just as vile, petty, and worthless as the "pissboys" they berate.
 
The gross majority of Doctor Who fans are either anglophiles or autistic snobs that pretend to watch anything else from that era Doctor Who first aired.
 
This annoys me on so many levels.
First & foremost, I can't stand when a classic character is fundamentally changed simply to pander to SJWs. The thinking seems to be "we've got this great character, let's change everything about him!"
It also demonstrates how little creativity the writers possess. They decide that because they lack enough minorities of some type, they remake an established character rather than create new characters of the desired group. Even worse is that they are ignoring already established characters which could flesh out the story.
It's offensive to both sexes to make them interchangeable. Men & women each have special & unique attributes. Making them essentially the same dilutes both.
Susan, Romana & the Rani are all fascinating Time Ladies. Each would be an excellent supporting character & any could easily be the main character in their own show.
Finally, why should the Doctor becoming a woman be an inspiration for girls? If anything, it suggests that they're not as good as boys. It says that if there's enough whining & pressure, a girl can be given a boy's role.
The modern Doctor Who series has gotten very preachy & left wing. It's so intent on pushing an agenda that it has abandoned it's sci fi roots. I have been hearing modern fans decry how sexist the show is, yet don't seem to realize how many strong female characters existed in the show's run, nor that a woman was involved with its creation & production in the early years.
I suspect Doctor Who will soon become more gimmick & will continue to decline as viewers tire of the lack of plot.

If it's any consolation, the Who episodes weren't as bad.

But they include Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, so the show might be fucked.

The thing is though, people are going to be mad no matter what he does which is great. If he dials back on some of the stuff Moffat does, people will complain the show is no longer progressive, and if he continues then people will complain about 'PC nonsense'.
 
Regardless of the writer and regardless of who plays the doctor I think this series will be the last one, the ratings are tanking and the stories are pretty low quality and have been for some time. Of course there could be a miraculous turn around in quality but to be honest that doesn't seem too likely.

There hasn't really been any attempt to broaden the shows appeal or win back fans that matt smith lost etc etc so it seems like it's on its way out which is a little bit sad but these things happen.

I'm looking forward to any future cancellation salt though, the inevitable fight of "the show would still be going if the doctor had been a man" versus "the show would still be going if people weren't such sexist shitlords" will be fun to watch.

Part of me would hate for the show to be canceled. But the other part of me knows that pre series 5 was the high point of the new series. Series 10 was a fucking dumpster fire (compared to series 9 which was great) , useless companion, the 12th doctor at his worst, lines shitting on canon just to appease tumblrtards, a three parter that had an unsatisfying payoff, a bunch of villains that are unremarkable and dull. If they want to salvage their ratings, their gonna have to really pull their socks up.
Oh and maybe make a decent dalek episode?
 
Ah so it really is a woman. Okay well... who cares? Since the last 3 seasons, the increasing problem with Doctor Who is the script and acting, and I sincerely doubt this actor change would fix the ratings.

All those doomsayers and those "told you so!" people are really blowing it out of proportion.
Season 3 of Mr. Robot coming this october though, cant wait!

Either the show is written well or it isn't. Of all the complaints I personally have with Doctor Who, it has nothing to do with the Actors playing them. All of them have been great and would have been excellent if the writing wasn't utter dreck.

The fact that there are people seriously pissed about this is fucking absurd, if the ratings are tanking why not try something new, something different?

Keep in mind that variety and options in entertainment are a new thing, especially in the UK where "four channels and nothing is on" was a thing for a long time. The entertainment industry, on both sides of the pond, is used to having an oligopoly on the market, and the consumers have had to take whatever they felt like turning out and like it, or "just turn off the TV ya prudes lol".

Factor in that entertainment skews heavily leftward, and leftward philosophies hate market competition, and the end result is a heavy cultural resistance to being responsive to your viewers' tastes and input.
