It has nothing to do with any Code of Ethics. It's the Federal Laws Governing the Prescription and Distribution of Controlled Narcotics. At a minimum what he did violates Dr Steves DEA credentials and privileges. Which are completely separate from his Medical License. What he did could and would also violate his Medical License.

The DEA is normally a bit flexible with regard to Paliative Care Practioners. But the patients need to be Terminal. Being Terminally Stupid does not count.

A few years ago we had an intern who was a bit of an avant garde feminist. Believe me I know. I suffer from chronic pain from a serious back injury. My doctor, blessings his heart, can legally give me 30 of the lowest dose Percosets every 6 months, to use sparingly for the really bad days. Anything more than that raises DEA flags and I would need regular urine tests to determine that I'm not an addict or some similar bullshit.

This is not a huge deal for me. I hate taking narcotics and I rarely use all 30 pills. But it's still incredibly insulting. I was injured as a Firefighter. I am forced to jump through hoops just to reduce the pain I suffered for aiding others because of assholes like Nick. This could be a sign of the judge's righteous anger at the Dr. Steve scam or just a sign of Melton's relative willingness to settle, but either way the important thing is that Melton is reportedly in pain, which will be exacerbated for months on end. Good.

IIRC people quoted information about the lab used for these tests, which included information about the test protocol requiring multiple tests to verify results.
