They removed DNS entries themselves, reason unknown to me.
The timeout is likely something different than host dropping them, the IP still pings, it could be something related to their webserver.

Unrestricted internet access is become more popular for parents who don't give a fuck about their kids and it's really fucking sad. When I inevitably have kids I'm not even going to let them have any internet access until they're 13.
