It really does appear that our ECM now is orders of magnitude better than then against China/Russia based SAMs. We lost a fair amount of planes over time in those and hardly any this time. It can't all be just stealth anymore. They're obviously going to get lucky once in awhile with optical/IR trackers.
to help illustrate this point, I'd like to remind us of Vietnam. during that war the US lost 8,540 aircraft of all types against a foe that was as equally well equipped with soviet and Chinese AA weaponry. The Vietnamese ground forces were far superior to Iran but that's not part of the conversation.
During the 80s with Reagan's build up most of the western military just started taking off to the point nobody could keep up. The only parity the Soviets could've possibly have is infantry and so on, but even their best tanks to to this day are more or less barely hit and the turrets fly off. They could build a few decent subs, that's about it even now just not very many of them.
