Most of the revolutionaries are Deists.
I feel like "most" is a bit of a generalization, a lot were, like Robespierre, but others were rabid proto-fedoras or some flavor of woo-enjoyer. After all the cult of the supreme being and the cult of reason were both a thing.

Iirc the makeup of the initial revolutionary leaders was something like 20% catholic, 40% deist, 30% atheists and the last 10% being protestants and other smaller flavors of belief, though that would obviously change the longer and more anti-christian the movement became.

Unfortunately we live in a world where we now know with absolute certainty that shit like DEI initiatives and ESG scores exist and infest this industry specifically.

20 years ago if there was a fugly-ish woman in a video game or a strange level of hypercompetency exclusive to characters of the fairer sex it'd just be shrugged off and thought of as a quirk of that game, but now people generally know better and understand that it's usually either outright intentional subversion via top-down diversity initiatives or some kind of intersectional virtue-signal on the part of the devs, both of which are cringe and gay.

It's why all the "If [X character you love] came out now you'd call it WOKE!" posts come off as silly and ignorant, given that if said characters did come out in current year they'd probably be pozzed as fuck and barely resemble the one we actually got.
I don't disagree with you. That's been my issue with it, too.

I'm not a pussy who wants to see men bow down and kiss my ass for existing but I would also prefer to not seek the company of people who unironically think that having a female protagonist in a game is a psyop to erode the foundation of society because women have never done anything important and should be relegated to nothing but eye candy and docile shopkeeps (which is, in fact, an opinion I have quite literally seen while backreading this very thread).

I am enough of a big boy to simply not engage with people who obviously don't want me there but it sure would be nice if the alternative wasn't fucking redditors.

We need to ban books because i cant stop myself from buying erotica on amazon and i have an entire room in my house dedicated to low quality fujoshi bait. I've filed for bankruptcy over it. We need to do something about this. We need to dismantle this dehumanizing industry.

China is actually trying to crack down on fujo shit. They probably won't completely succeed at doing so, because the fujos will find away around such bans.

Thread tax: I still don't understand how Visual Novels became such a populated genre, that a site for them is a thing in VNDB. And given how they started out from Japan (I think), it makes me wonder if the Japanese were that simple-minded and dullard people to keep buying those.

Jews will never let you ban porn, but yeah we probably should. Or is that just another 'entertainment medium' with absolutely no qualities that make it better or worse than any other form of 'leisure activity' , such as actually having sex with a loved one, or just walking around the park and thinking about your life.

Most visual novels are just the nerdy male equivalent to pornographic romance books for woman. It fulfills the desire to experience romantic scenes with a cute girl that other genres or mediums aren't fulfilling. It's not really any more of a simple-minded desire than wanting to experience being a badass mowing down enemies or going on an adventure, it's just not conductive towards "gameplay" so the games end up just being books but with pictures and sound.

The last few pages of this thread are akin to those fags who were like "Why don't you nerds just learn to play REAL GUITAR instead of pushing colorful buttons on your plastic toy guitars!!!!" and then the Guitar Hero dudes scramble to defend their game instead of just saying "because it's fun, while learning real guitar is a commitment with no career prospects, and i have other shit to do in life"

It is the lukewarm takes on video games thread so its at home here with the shit.

Modding old Game Boys with fancy new OLED screens is a lot of fun and I would do a bunch and flip them if grey, unmodded, basic-ass DMG-101s didn't sell for an eye-watering $80 nowadays. Who the fuck is paying $80 for a dank-ass 35 year old Game Boy? They should be like ten bucks tops now. Palmer Luckey should send me a free Chromatic. And make it so they can do built-in save states. I love the idea of the Chromatic and its selection of new games, but just making a super nice version of a bare-ass Game Boy Color isn't enough for the modern day. It should be able to play as many other handhelds as possible. Like the Analogue, but made by Luckey and not those shady limey faggots. Games should also be on, like, full-sized SIM cards. With the dimensions of a credit card, so they're not so small you can accidentally lose one in your urethra but also so you can enjoy the artwork on both sides.

Or hell, you might not even need the contacts anymore. Just an NFC tag with plenty of storage. Surely those have comparable IO speeds and storage to a GBA game by now, right? Then you'd have a nice plastic card with your game on it that you could chuck into anything that can hold cards, or just keep in your wallet. Now that's a neo-retro collectible game format I could get behind.

There are a number of projects doing the NFC stuff, not sure how many do them as game storage I think many just tell the emulator/FPGA/whatever what code to load from its internal MicroSD/SSD/etc.

Bosses have poorly designed anime style combos that never end and are impossible to dodge? "Get gud scrub, you need to play the game ten times to understand Mizayiks genius"
That was a huge gripe of mine with ER. Every boss feels like it has a tool for everything you could want to do. Unreactable attacks, obnoxious AoE, an attack to disengage and make space, an attack when there's space, an "I'm gonna dooo iiiiiit" slow attack made to fuck you if you dodged thinking it was the similar-looking faster attack, some multi-hit combo attack... I could go on, but most of the humanoid bosses felt very samey. Then of course there's bullshit like the enormous ulcerated tree spirits whose attacks you can't even read, and they get put into small rooms quite often and partially clip out of them.

I don't think ER is the worst game I've played, far from it, but it really falls short on its boss fights. Being open world certainly doesn't help.

Unpopular opinion: too many gamerbroskis are thin-skinned faggots without basic composure
Gaming has become more and more and more mainstream and the fact that everyone with a phone that has access to the internet thinks everyone wants to see ever idea that is in their head you get to see the thousands of voices that try to interact with legit everything.

Video games as art is something argued over and over again, to the point where some people here tire of it, but some games do deserve that distinction. Games such as Witcher 3, Paper Mario 2, Mass Effect 2, among others, proved that the medium can be just as good at cinematic and depth of story as movies and novels can. Even the "bad" endings in games like Mass Effect 2 and Witcher 3 can be just as moving as any great tragic film or novel.

Sure, more recent games have soured the concept of games as art, but it was nice for a time when games tried to aim for that kind of thing. The Super Mario RPG remake is the newest game I played which passed that bar.

I'm that person. Do we have an Unpopular Opinion About Books thread? I want to try something.

There should be a game that takes place during the Salem Witch trials.
You wander around in act 2 for a bit and suddenly boom its the water test minigame! Gotta see if Goody Proctor will survive underwater to prove she's really a witch, so you better mash that x button!
