Rancho Cucamonga is like an urban area between LA and San Bernardino but leaning more towards San Bernardino so it's a decent spot if they extend the LA metro or light rail system to there while the project is being done. Brightline might also just do an extension into downtown LA itself later on when they have more money to play with.
Alternatively they could extend it to the Ontario International Airport.
 
Anyone here familiar with Tinian? Sold by Spain to Germany after the Spanish-American War, taken over by Japan under League of Nations mandate after WW1, turned into a sugar plantation, and then absorbed by the US after WW2. It's most famous as the departure point of the Enola Gay and Bockscar, which dropped the Little Boy and Fat Man A bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those WW2 airfields are now being rebuilt/expanded in response to China and (kinda sorta) Best Korea. The same is true for the island of Peleliu in Palau (10K killed/wounded when the US invaded). Palau's also an interesting place - world-class scuba diving if you're ever in the neighborhood.

Were you a child during the 2020 election? Because it was Fox News (Chris Wallace, a never-Trump RINO who parted ways with Fox soon after) that made the call that Arizona went for Biden (even though there were a shit ton of problems in Arizona and it should not have been called), effectively giving cover for every news channel to end all reporting for the night and thereby allowing a bunch of ballots to secretly get dumped overnight in Wisconsin to clinch the win for Biden.

When I watched Chris Wallace pull that move, I stopped watching Fox News entirely. You can probably find despairing posts I made in the prior megathread(s) about it. The idea that Fox News was on Republicans' side was immediately thrown out the window permanently when I saw that happen before my very eyes.

You're not entirely wrong to think this, Newsom is viewed with mild disdain at best by the average Californian and has pissed off many of the progressives to his left who view him as a corporate neoliberal puppet. He's going to go down as the Californian Trudeau or Cuomo and will be thrown under the bus by the state Democrats just like Cuomo was eventually when they finally figure out he's not a viable presidential candidate. The problem is that just like Cuomo the only realistic replacement for him is either another state swamp creature or a Mamdani clone progressive retard, the state GOP is outnumbered, addicted to losing, and more than happy to accept their role as the designated opposition.

Correction:
I checked some statements made by Brightline and the new estimate is at $21.5 billion as of this year; I had heard the number before but assumed that it was a estimate by a third party and elected to not mention it given how inaccurate they (third parties) can be. Given future delays and inflation, a number like $25-28 billion is likely going to be the actual final cost.
They also intend to achieve an hourly frequency which will—for a single track system—require some very tight scheduling to allow trains going in opposite directions to pass by each other once they reach the same station. This may also require trains to stay at a station for a few extra minutes to allow the incoming one to reach it and be out of the way which is suboptimal but they're doing this to save on costs.
