You would not believe how stingy companies are about IT, I have personally witnessed education/gray sector/government bodies using cracked Windows and carrying around large chunks of data on unencrypted USBs.
And unfortunately those are practically immune from suit, but when a private corporation is doing it, it provides an avenue for revenge. I'm not generally of the snitch bitch persuasion but once when a company fucked me over in an absolutely contemptible manner I ratted them out to Microsoft and they got utterly raped. When I found this had happened I called them up just to tell them I was the one who did it.

None of his imagined plights flights or constitutional absurdities get past that issue. In fact one of his complaints. That he is being charged more than others in the building let's Schaefer bring in why. Because he is a higher risk. And show his eviction history.

I ran IT for a company without a budget and with about 30 PCs. And almost 30 different versions of windows. So we ran a not-very-legal KMS server just to get everything working for a while, because there was just zero organisation at all. Spending around 3-4K on a proper server (the only one) was a problem.. Wasn't good for my hoarding tendencies. :')

While we're confessing sins against Microsoft, SWIM may have used a legally ambiguous install of Windows 10 LTSC when upgrading the studio computer for a very small listener-supported community radio station. Not just because of budget, but because the studio computer needs 24/7 uptime, and SWIM didn't want the volunteer (and mostly technically illiterate) presenters to be freaked out when Windows 10 forces an update during the middle of their show.
