The destruction of the Muslims holy sites would be great for archeology. There's probably tons of biblical era artifacts under it, and we can't access them because the Muslims are going mad when we try.
The Kaaba doesn't have anything under it. Arabia was nothing before Islam, and Saudi are so afraid of archeology questioning Islam they refuses any searches in the area.

Settling old scores? Al aqsa doesn't have the same position in Shia Islam as Sunni. It's the seat of an ideological rival (also a crusader church coopted by muslims, but that's a separate point of contention for a different war), so they'd have an incentive to damage it and then blame America/Israel for forcing their hand.
