Was tucker carlson controlled opposition this entire time?
It's seemed that way for a long while. When Tucker took over O'Reilly's show, he was probably
the most trusted man in the mainstream media on the Right, because he said a lot of the right things and would more "alt"-right than anyone else.
But people forget that, after the 2020 election got stolen, Tucker was one of the most outspoken and aggressive right-wing anchors yelling that fraud didn't occur, and people need to shut the fuck about it. It wasn't after Biden was inaugurated that he slowly started changing his tune.
He was essentially (if not literally) a Mockingbird asset, whose job it is to infiltrate the media space of further right, populist groups, and get on their side, and when shit actually hits the fan and they need major damage control, he acts as a "trusted source" to help temper the group he's embedded into. I don't know if, after leaving Fox, his masters have changed, if his orders have changed, or he was released from service and this is where his actual ideals are, but people shouldn't trust him. You can enjoy watching him (I do at times), but you shouldn't just trust everything he says.
