They are. These things are just so easy to produce that Iran can always scrounge up enough of them to threaten shipping in the Strait. What's required to reopen the Strait is US warships in the Strait showing presence and actively defending shipping. That would mean risking the lives of a couple hundred US sailors in a war that congress did not vote on though.

Short term pain for long term gain, at least that would be the thoughts of the ones more in favor of intervention in the Trump administration.
Building up a resistance (at least an actively fighting one) while the IRGC and Basij are strong is not worthwhile. Please be patient. It's hard with a lot of people having a "Tiktok brain" now and can't think of the medium to long term.

There's not much more than can be done at this stage other than waiting.

It doesn't seem viable to have warships defend the merchant Marine ships. I mean they probably have some form of AA defense but they're not going to be able to do much about drones.
Beside that, literally every country trump has tried to pressure into bringing ships to help has said no.
This isn't a naval war. This is a drone war. The Navy can't do much about the drones.

You can't seem to fathom that the shipping industry operates out of any fixed jurisdiction.
It matters very little what America wants. The shipping industry is more powerful and more prevalent than any world government.
