It’s hard to say. It might’ve been a year late to have a significant effect. Some of the drone strikes they’ve hit neighbors with apparently have had Russian parts. There was a point where Russia started doing more of the manufacturing themselves. The knock back is going to come in the impact on Russia’s reach. Where will ships and planes be able to land/dock? Outside of Russia proper they don’t have a lot of safe/friendly locations.

You'd think Europeans would actually support Israel and the USA against Iran since going against a major ally of Russia that manufactures gear for them improves Ukraine's position.

Positives:

• Russia will miss out on vital Iranian components for their Geran drones.
• No more deliveries of the Fath-360 missiles, and they ones they already received may never launch if it's true they are missing launchers provided by Iran.

Negatives:

• Russia likely doesn't even need Iranian help much with its Yelabuga drone factory; as @R00T said, Russian components have been found in the Iranian drones.

• EU now putting pressure on Ukraine restoring the Druzhba pipeline.

• Less Western media attention for Ukraine; a trend since the Gaza War 2023-, which is compounded by millennials and zoomers generally lacking interest.

Putin releases 2 Hungarians captured fighting for Ukraine after Szijjarto talks​

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 4 that two Hungarian nationals who had been serving in Ukraine's military and captured by Russia were released following talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"I have decided to release two people," Putin said. "As requested by (Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban), you may take them with you directly onto the plane that brought you here."

"These are citizens who have dual citizenship, both Ukrainian and Hungarian."

The release comes after a March 3 phone call between Orban and Putin and amid Hungary's dispute with Ukraine over Russian oil transit. Only men holding Ukrainian citizenship are subject to mobilization, and Ukraine does not recognize dual Ukrainian-Hungarian citizenship.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Hungarian charge d'affaires in response to the incident, which it characterized as a "cynical" PR stunt in a statement to multiple Ukrainian news outlets on March 4.

"The real humanitarian efforts made by those countries of the world that sincerely help Ukraine release people from captivity and protect life are never accompanied by such cynical PR and politicization. It is important that life has the highest value," the statement read.

The Foreign Ministry will invite the charge d'affaires to provide additional information on the prisoners as well as "access to the persons who were returned."

Returning prisoners from Russian captivity — notorious for brutal conditions, including torture — is the utmost priority for Kyiv, the ministry said.

"The Ukrainian side is working on it constantly, on all platforms and with all parties that can contribute to the release of our people from captivity. At the same time, we are forced to state that this is not the first time that Moscow and Budapest have been manipulating the sensitive issue of prisoners of war," the ministry said.

The prisoner release comes amid a deepening rift between Ukraine and Hungary. Szijjarto and Putin also discussed energy tensions tied to the suspension of the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies Russian crude to Hungary and Slovakia and has been offline since late January.

Kyiv has said the disruption followed a Russian strike on energy infrastructure in western Ukraine. Budapest and Bratislava, however, accuse Ukraine of deliberately halting transit.

Ahead of the talks, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov voiced support for the two states whose governments are widely seen as the most Kremlin-friendly in the EU — accusing Ukraine of "blackmail."......

It looks like before setting out the gypo and Szijjarto were making some sort of wrap, perhaps Körözött. The gypo loves his coffee what with a US$10,000 coffee machine. Given Orbán's claims of penury, it's quite possible it was a pressie from some of his many friends whether Chinese, Korean, Russian or whoever. Perhaps also give his country residence with fountains and exotic animals, his publicly filed statement of means and assets is perhaps a little misleading (for example, but denying wealth of 205 mln Florints or c. $621k seems like a joke).

At least 337 Ukrainian POWs 'brutally' executed by Russia, Ukraine's ombudsman says​

Russia has "deliberately and brutally" executed at least 337 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) as of the end of 2025, Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, said on March 3 during a meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Council.

The mistreatment of prisoners of war constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

"Russia has turned torture into state policy and uses it as a weapon," Lubinets said in a post on Telegram.

Lubinets added that, according to U.N. data, 95% of Ukrainian POWs are systematically tortured in captivity.

Lubinets called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia, ensure that every crime is fully documented, and bring those responsible to justice.

"This issue is critically important — the world cannot stand aside," he said.

As of February 2026, Russia is holding approximately 7,000 Ukrainians captive, including civilians — a violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

More than 4,000 Ukrainians held captive by Russia are military personnel. Ukraine, in turn, holds around 4,000 Russian prisoners of war and has reiterated its readiness to carry out an exchange on an "all-for-all" format, according to Zelensky.

Returning civilians from Russian territory remains even more difficult than securing the release of military personnel.

In 2025, Ukraine conducted 10 prisoner exchanges, bringing home 2,080 service members but only 230 civilians, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said on Jan. 20.

The most recent prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia took place on Feb. 5, 2026, with 157 Ukrainian service members and civilians returning home.

There's something I haven't seen any news site post about, or ANYONE else comment under the news on Hungarian channels/leddit/whatever, so you guys are getting the first scoop on the identity of the POWs from me.

Maybe it's because noone else is retarded enough to watch a 3.6k views video on the Hungarian State Television's YouTube channel uploaded a week ago, titled: "The Horrors of War - Hungarian-Ukrainian double citizen becomes Russian prisoner-of-war.
It's a series of videos, mostly focusing on how Ukrainians are left without things as simple as cooking oil and flour, or heating in their apartments, how shittily the Ukrainian Army is trained and equipped, how there's no power in Ukraine, there's a separate 20 minutes long segment dedicated to nothing but footage of "Ukrainian conscription" with masked men dragging random people into vans and disappearing them aswell. It's the quintessential war psychosis fear porn Orban has been churning out for years and years now and it's what he keeps a segment of the populace enthralled with. This particular segment of course focuses on dual citizens allegedly conscripted by the Ukrainian forces.

It features two Hungarian/Ukrainian prisoners of war allegedly in Russian captivity, eternally grateful for Mr. Lord President Putin for taking such amazing care of them, and explaining being a POW with the Russians is literally better than being enlisted with the hohol dogs who found him medically fit despite him suffering from literally every illness imaginable. I've seen other videos of these two on some of the telegram channels so they were frequent actors in 'gee whiz I love being a Russian POW it's amazing" videos, not just these
It might not come across if you are not a native Hungarian speaker but literally EVERYONE speaking on video is drunk out of their minds, slurring their speech (they speak normally on the flight home in the later video).

Notes: Publishing videos like this with POW's literally just reciting Russian propaganda is literally breaking the Geneva Conventions.

At this point at the original release of the "Horros of War" video, there was no mention of what their fate is going to be, no mention of prisoner swaps- Szijjarto's visit was basically revealed when he was already broadcasting from Moscow. There still is no public statement/article from independent media that these two particular men have featured prominently in Russian propaganda actively broadcasted in Hungarian state media.

Update on the POW situation. Didn't want to make a separate post for it so I'll just leave it here.

According to FM Szijjártó Putin asked for nothing in exchange for the two prisoners. When asked why now and why these two people, he said that one of them pleaded to Orban Viktor in a POW video and the other one had his mother reach out to Orban; his bleeding heart couldn't resist and just had to break all of these international laws and create another diplomatic crisis in order to immediately get them 'home'.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned in the chargé d'affaires to Hungary and has said in a statement that they were not notified of the prisoner exchange, which is obviously not news, it was clear the entire thing is a Russian propaganda OP coordinated between the Hungarian and Russian governments.

Also, I'd like to remind everyone of the 2023 POW fiasco too:
Summary on this: In June 2023 Russia handed over 11 ethnic Hungarian Ukrainian POW's from Transcarpathia to Hungary without informing Ukraine. It was totally not pedophile totally not homosexual 100% straight Semjén Zsolt coordinating it with the also superstraight (I mean, he who hasn't ever had a crisis of faith and molested an altar boy or two or three may throw the first stone at him) Metropolitan Hilarion, masquerading the Russian hybrid operation as a humanitarian project in tandem with the Russian Orthodox Church.

The funnies: they weren't Hungarians but ethnic Ukrainians, with the exception of a single person who did have actual Hungarian roots. The POW's were constantly starved, tortured, beaten, forced to sing the Russian anthem starting from their 2022 June capture near Lysychansk. One day they were suddenly transferred to Moscow, where they were told that they are now Hungarians and that's what they will tell everyone moving forward and they should, for obvious reasons, never return to Ukraine again. After claiming a false Hungarian ethnicity they were flown to Budapest where they were meant to be housed until the end of war.

The even more funnies: By 2026 I believe all of the POWs from the 2023 transfer including the Hungarian one ended up back in Ukraine because they didn't want to be traitors or something. AFAIK most of these people still have their military status in limbo due to the whole fiasco.

My prediction on the recent POW exchange: Give it a week or two and the men released will be coached and used for even more fearporn Russian disinfo material- they have already given interviews immediately after landing with the summary of 'Ukraine bad Russians bathed me in milk and honey' so it isn't really that hard of a guess to make.
