No way are Kurds going to be marching into Tehran. They're just going to kill Iranian soldiers in their corner of the country and then probably try to separate into a new enthostate as per usual. We're probably hearing of them as just the first rebel faction we're arming because of the name recognition, previous relations with the US, and their distance from Iranian strongholds. It will probably take longer to arm other rebel groups because they need to be reached and assessed as sufficiently credible and pro-American. I don't think we're going to be handing guns over to just any Iranian protester. So apparently we're arming the Kurds now in the hopes that they'll lead the internal regime change?
Does anyone have any context on Iranian Kurds (like how many there are, how alienated they feel from the rest of Iran, if they've had a history of armed uprising, and so forth)? Is this a viable strategy, or are we in for another repeat of Iraq/Syria?
