Really regret not having included in my initial post with bold capitalized text that I know the one wargame 20 years ago was a sham. Guess it's impossible to really understand why the Iranians built so many missile armed speedboats that they then decided to never use.

The only way the strategy ever made sense to me is if Iran was expecting to be given the approximate carrier location by Russia or China. Guess neither were very interested. Would have figured that just like the missile units Iran eould have given the speedboat forces some deadhand orders. At the very least having a thousand speedboats moving about would have achieved at least not having everyone together to get bombed in a few runs.

US needs Europe to make the logistics of this thing work. There's a reason those tankers were stationed in Spain, and were redirected to Germany, France and Great Britain.

The US bases in Middle-East are not sufficient alone to support this operation. US needs its European allies, like it or not.

Interestingly enough, the United States actually didn't want to overthrow Mossadegh, they actually didn't give a fuck, (he was anti-communist ) they didn't care about the nationalization of oil, the British however did. And the British threatened to not support our actions in Korea if the United States didn't back them. Because remember nationalizing the oil meant that British petroleum would no longer be able to make money. So basically the British threatened our ability to fight communism in a just war so they could make some more money for their literal dying empire.
