The Iranian strategy is probably to degrade anti-air assets and especially radar installations as much as possible and then moving on to more vital targets. Then it makes sense to attack not only your direct opponents but also countries allied with them providing radar data. If the Iranians can retain some offensive capability and manage to exhaust air defenses to a point where their rockets get to their targets with increasing regularity, then Iran can manage to not lose.

Yes I thought it makes sense to continue striking US bases in the region given so many missiles and drones andare getting intercepted on the way to Israel. However, that assessment doesn’t really gel with them having no leadership structure. Maybe the standing orders was just go ham on regional US assets for the reasons listed above. In that case it’s not necessarily followed up by a recalibration because nobody is left to recalibrate.

Iran's retaliatory campaign has targeted six Gulf states with over 1,200 combined munitions since strikes on Iran began yesterday morning.

UAE: 541 cruise munitions, 165 ballistic missiles
Kuwait: 283 cruise munitions, 97 ballistic missiles
Qatar: 12 cruise munitions, 65 ballistic missiles
Bahrain: 9 cruise munitions, 45 ballistic missiles
Oman: 2 cruise munitions
Saudi Arabia: No details provided

These figures do not include munitions launched toward Israel or at U.S. bases in Iraq and Jordan.

Semi-unrelated, but I was surprised that Russia was so late to the glide bomb game. The JDAM platform has existed since 1999 while the Russian glide bomb kit debuted in 2023 with the Ukraine war, and that was only after the lost some jets because they had to get so close to bomb accurately. Few of Russia's aircraft are true stealth fighters so it would make sense that they would be the first to develop a cheap alternative to guided bombs that could be safety launched from a greater distance accurately. After all, why spend billions in r&d for stealth fighters or expensive hellfire copies when you can attach some wings and a guidance system to old stock FABs?

Russia also was using variants of there Kh-25 which is like the Hellfire missile but its older, 1970s older and even with upgrades, its limited and more expensive. The new Kh-28 has been in use since 2011 but still, a glide bomb kit for dumb bombs seems like something Russia would have thought of way before the US perfected it. I supposed its because the US had more need and experience because of the war on terror, but still, I don't know why Russia didn't copy the US beforehand.

No the US path to not losing is for some Iranian with clout remaining deciding he wants to take control and be friends with the US and Israel. That's the only plan. We can't install that person or they will be instantly rejected. It has to be someone inside already and known who can be bought. Without it Trump might be fucked.
