from the moment we are born we are clothed in some sort of fiber and even in our death we are made to wear suits while we lay in the ground, even people who sleep naked will only be nude for a few hours at most. clothing is practically a part of our skin as we are seldom without it. does anyone else find this weird? aside from shell dwelling crustaceans there are few animals whom have this same kind of relationship with manmade objects.

also no im not taking into account shitholes where they dont have much clothes to wear, those places dont exist.

We've been using clothes for ten's of thousands of years. It's the reason why we have so little hair. It's not that weird when as a species we evolved to use the pelts of other animals for warmth instead of making use of our own fur. Kinda like how our teeth aren't as strong as other predator animals, we made up for it with tools.

Both are true; from what I've looked into, clothing was always an exception. The overwhelming majority of human history in non-frigid climates wore little to no clothing (e.g. loincloths at most), with applicable seasonality. Humans being furless is primarily for endurance and flexibility. The idea of always wearing clothes is a cultural thing that developed mainly in Western Europe around Rome, but the global norm of always wearing clothes is a very recent Western global imposition. Practically speaking, humans are best without clothes until contextually proven otherwise.

TL;DR, there is no tactical advantage to always wearing clothes other than obvious extreme climates. The only reason we do it is because the West says so.

Would we have an obesity crisis if we we never invented clothing? Would not being able to use clothing to cover up being a fat piece of shit discourage people from being fat pieces of shit?

And there are times when I see an extremely attractive woman and wish humans never invented clothing.

I'm picking up what you're putting down, fren.

Yeah and then those people got conquered. The most backwards people groups in the world that still unironically wear loincloths are basically protected species at this point.

primal humans in their natural habitat didn't require clothes.
that natural habitat was tropical regions where you have permanent summer all year long and lots of moisture and foliage around.
if you look at primitive uncontacted jungle tribes today, they still live with very minimal clothing, because the environment doesn't require it.

outside of that rather narrow environment, clothes are a necessity for survival. in arid hot areas clothes protect from the sun that would otherwise cook you alive. in places that are further from the equator you need clothes to not freeze to death. doesn't even have to be cold winter - even in spring and autumn, one rainy night without clothes and shelter can easily kill a human.

No weirder than how we evolved to be embarrassed at seeing our reproductive equipment blatantly hanging out in the open except during sexy times. Clothing adoption is multifaceted and there are numerous reasons one can point to as to why we've wholly embraced it as a species (warmth, status symbol, peacocking, combat advantage, etc.).

Hermit crabs also use a shell their whole lives and if they lose it they will just replace it with anything.
They instinctively seek to protect their abdomen as well as their inner unprotected organs;
You (because i wish to believe you do) and I wear clothes to protect our ass from cold, insolation and insects.

I'd find it weird if we were covered in fur, but we're not.
we are covered in fur tho its just that we have lost it over time and only retain a small amount of what our ancestors held, much like what @Jason_Cruiser said it seems we evolved to use the pelts of other animals instead of our own. in that way we are much like parasites for we relied upon other animals for our own warmth in exchange of nothing. our own need to wear clothes was much the case for the extinction of however many animals weve slaughtered in our long history.

Practically speaking, humans are best without clothes.
it really depends upon what you see as best, i doubt we would have been able to conquer much of the world without it due to the extreme chill of mountain passes and the harsh cold spots of the world. people who lived in areas with lots of snow were forced to wear clothing as they did not have enough hair to offset the climate. i suppose it begs the question of wether or not people had "started" out in such places or if they travelled to them of their own volition which we may never know. if there were subsets of humans who had lived in these cold areas from the beginning then clothes seem like less of an evolution and more of as i said a form of skin much like how the hermit crab owes its outer layer to found shells upon the beach.

And there are times when I see an extremely attractive woman and wish humans never invented clothing.
mayhaps,

good point, i dont think there is a single peoples that do not make use of clothing and are also independent, its as if cloth is simply a natural evolution point in humans.

You and I wear clothes to protect our ass from cold, insolation and insects.
the bugs are my friends,

I sleep naked and after I wake up I take a shit and make breakfast naked, that's 12h without clothes.
What the actual fuck is wrong with you wearing clothes for 24h?
i never said anything was wrong with it i just think its weird, to most people its a part of their skin due to how little they are without it including myself.

We are currently losing on all geopolitical fronts and getting ethnically and culturally replaced by those same people that we conquered.

going by that same logic those people use clothing because we force them too, anyways no politics in my thread this is about how we killed the wooly mammoth all so we can wear anime graphic t-shirts in the modern age.

Same point, the reason was political. And power's not as simple as that.

it's not just harsh cold spots. without clothes and shelter humans do not survive even in temperate climates.
and it's not just about hair either. super hairy animals that are adapted to hot environments (like gorillas or lions) also won't survive in colder climates.

You're still using textiles while you sleep though unless you sleep on a bare floor with no mattress or bedding

The Thread: "
