Its abnormally well written for a childrens cartoon. I watched it for the first time as an adult but I was genuinely entertained by this little kiddie cartoon on the telly, partially cause Im a batman fan but still. I wouldnt go as far as to say its the best childrens show ever but I cant find any competitors. The Indiana Jones style episode where he goes across the world after Ras Al Ghul is the episode I remember being the best, although most people would say the Mr Freeze episode being the best (Fucking emo bait episode). The Clayface origin episode is also very good, just lots of good writing and a very good formula. Mask of the Phantasm is also a very good bookend for the show.
I was impressed that it has guns everywhere and city councilmen kissing their wives in between
It feels like prestige TV for adults written for Little Johnny (so a little dumbed down) so you throw in a dude wearing his underwear on the outside.
You can also tell who's evil because they have evil physiognomy (ie not a jacked ubermensch)

Makes me kind of blue
I didn't really do cartoons as a kid, too much whimsy and fun for me I guess. I grew into liking fantasy and childlike things. So I, like, miss things that were already outdated by the time I came along. Especially nowadays.
I miss the days when supervillains were a dude with a bee gun named the Bee Man who for some reason robs banks with a bunch of middle-aged guidos named Rocco who call him bossman. Instead of this faggotry where Grimace is going to open a hell portal to let aliens in.

Working my way through Warhammer+'s content since yesterday (already watched Angels of Death, which i recommended ITT, and Pariah Nexus some time ago) and so far it is pretty lackluster. Watched "The Tithes", which i thought was alright, dated/budget CGI and female Custodes in the second episode notwithstanding.

Made it halfway through "Hammer&Bolter" and also watched the first three episodes of "Interrogator" and the quality of animation is just insulting. Made-for-TV anime from the 80s has more animation frames on average than this shit, the character designs are also beyond iffy. GW has money, why churn out shows that look like this? Not to mention gating it behind their own subscription service? I did not pay for watching these shows and i still feel ripped off. The voice acting is even worse than the animation.

It's a shame because the stories aren't even half bad, especially "Interrogator", which i will continue to watch in full just because of that.
Park Chan-Wook's, (Old Boy, Snowpiercer, The Handmaiden) new film, No Other Choice (2025) was fantastic. The cinematography and the score (who doesn't love some cello) were so good. The ending really makes you think, I loved it, cannot recommend it enough along with Park's other films. The decisions made, did this man truly not have any other choice?! Laugh out loud funny but also super dark. 5/5

After being unemployed for several years, a man devises a unique plan to secure a new job: eliminate his competition.
Definitely gonna watch this, planned on doing so today when i read your post yesterday but i feel i am already too fucked up two drinks in to properly concentrate/enjoy a movie like this. Didn't even read past the first sentence in your post (i prefer to not have any spoilers at all when i watch a film) but am already sold. Last thing i watched where Wook was involved (only as a writer, not director) was "Uprising", loved it. I think i recommended it ITT on my old account.
Watched The Wanderers yesterday and really enjoyed it. It's crazy how you can just watch any random movie from 20+ years ago and it will be miles ahead of most of the slop being put out today. The scene where the teacher makes the class list every racial slur they can think of for each other was hilarious, as was the way the Irish were portrayed as literal speechless inhuman monsters. 8/10 highly recommended

Great film, watched it many times. First watched it in German on TV ages ago, the classroom scene with the slurs is toned down extremely in the german dub compared to the original but still quite funny. Was a bit taken aback and high-key amused when i got to see the film in english for the first time, "I'ma chuck a spear up yo' ass" :story: Been a while since i last rewatched it, didn't even realize the Ducky Boys were suppossed to be Irish :story:
I have nearly finishing the BBC miniseries of John le Carre masterpiece The little drummer girl from 2018.
The basic plot summary i can give, is that in 1979, Mossad are after a couple of palestinans brothers who bomb jewish targets in Europe.
They recruit a semi radical left wing actress to go undercover and discover the mastermind behind it.
The story is very nuance with the while conflict and shows that both sides have some redeeming qualities and how cold and brutal the spy warfare is.

The casting is excellent. Micheal Shannon, Alexander Skarsgård, Charles Dance and most important Florence Pugh.
I would say that one of the reason why the show is so good, is not just the great script, filming but the acting from Skarsgård and Pugh.
They are amazing and make their characters feel very much alive.
So in short, check it out if you are hunrgy for good spy thrillers.

The casting alone tells me i need to watch this. On the list it goes.

Ostatnio edytowane:
I had a dream about a TV show/movie where the main character, an average normal guy, is hired to protect some rich guy against assassination attempts, but he's actually incompetent and only succeeds due to blind luck mostly. There's a female staffer/family member of the rich guy who serves as the love interest to the main character, and a seasoned bodyguard is also hired who in his last scene correctly identifies the piece of cake that has a bomb in it, but eats it anyway. There was also a part where the good guys go undercover in a sex party and steal what turns out to be the fake passports of a group of assassins (who look just like the good guys) and that's when I woke up sadly.

Does any of this exist or did I make everything up and if so, why are hollywood writers still getting paid?

Just finished watching "No Other Choice" by Park-Chan Wook. Loved it, the best Korean film i've watched in many, many years. Has some fantastic scenes and sequences, the story and how it is told is great. Not gonna lie, i thought after the first ten minutes that i am wasting my time with this and surely end up hating it (it felt too much like Netflix K-Drama #2361523, just with higher production values) but it didn't take long for me to be fully invested in the film after that. The acting, as in so many other Korean films, is maybe its weakest point but it is still miles above any other, recent Korean movies i've watched, plus there's a noted and very appreaciated absence of the usual Korean overacting, with maybe a single exception. I liked how nuanced the mix between serious drama and genuinely funny scenes was in this, Wook is generally one of the very few Korean directors where the drama in his films doesn't feel forced, despite their mostly outlandish plots. My minor nitpick is that i did not like the oversaturated colors, especially in the nature scenes. Cinematography is overall beautiful.
More people need to watch The Hero Yoshihiko! It is truly one of the best pieces of Japanese kinomancy, blows anime out of the water / 10.

Watched the fist episode of that last year or at the end of 2024, high-key amusing show. Never got around to watching it further but i liked it, has some real, goofy charm and all the nods to and parody of of common JRPG tropes are great.

Watching The Aristocats and it's interesting seeing the old animation style and all the little details I never noticed before like the flickering line art in the animation.

I love that show, and I particularly love it when Buddha appears

Watched a comedy movie called Fackham Hall. It's a Naked Gun style comedy version of a Downton Abbey-type British aristocracy succession drama. A rich family is set to lose their family manor if their rebellious daughter doesn't marry the current heir, but a new member of staff with a mysterious past catches her eye. I won't say more about the story to not spoil anything, but I really liked it. Won't change your lives, but if you like the Naked Gun style (lots of puns, lots of visual gags, lots of jokes in the background, some unobtrusive pop culture references*, etc), you'll enjoy it.

I'm not really familiar with any of the cast, except for the manor's heir being played by the guy who as a child played Draco in the Potter movies (who by the way looks exactly like a young Johnathan Pryce now), and Jimmy Carr, who plays a vicar in a couple scenes (a few jokes are about him misreading texts resulting in fun being poked at the Church; if you're sensitive about that as some around here are, you're warned).

The only other thing to mention is JRR Tolkien, the writer, is a character in the movie. He's referred to as "JRR Tolkien, the writer" most of the time, and there's evidently some jokes about him getting some ideas for his books from things he hears in the movie.

So yeah I recommend it.

*One I'll spoill because it made me laugh bigly was that there's a couple sisters who only ever talk about men, and they're called the Bechdel sisters.

Honestly the entire animated series DC universe they had for the 90s/early 2000s was better then all the live action movies combined. They really knew how to sneak in adult subtext while still making palatable shows for kids. Some of the villains in these are really hardcore. Ultimately the single greatest strength of this franchise is how much it actually develops batman as a character and gives him a proper beginning middle and end to his saga. This really does feel like the most fleshed out version of Bruce/Batman ever made

Here's a general cliffnotes of the rest of the franchise.

1771290780005.png

The New Batman Adventures: Basically the final solo batman series, that eventually tied into superman. I remember loving this way more as a kid then the original. The original is good no question, but this is showcasing an even darker and more cynical batman. A brick shithouse of a human being that acts like a beat cop who's seen too much to smile . The art style is not everyone's cup of tea but I rather liked how cartoonish and grim it was. Has the best version of Scarecrow and isn't afraid to get really intense.

Dude almost made batman kill him.

1771291622984.png

Superman: Love it. They knew how to write Superman as a compassionate badass with a decent amount of intelligence. Tim Daly is probably the best version of a Straight A, Heroic Superman. Also has quite possibly the best superman opening theme.

The biggest strength I think is how they properly showcased his rogues gallery while emphasizing how he needs to protect everyone around him from collateral damage. Solid supporting cast, pretty much everyone here is the definitive versions of the characters. Especially Clancy Brown as lex Luther.

I just remember loving how dynamic some of the fights got. There was good interplay and Supes was unafraid to fight dirty.

The only real negative is the final season had a surprisingly dark ending that was supposed to be followed up with another season. Not a cliffhanger but still.

1771293401976.png

The little mini movie they had in-between that tied the series together was great. Quite literally the first time a serious meeting between batman and superman was made.
Batman casually Judo throwing superman into a table and ignoring him afterwards will seriously never be topped in live action.

1771292679569.png

Batman Beyond: I'm gonna get shit for this but aside from a really good premise, opener and design I think it's overrated. Not bad mind you, the relationship between old Bruce and Terry is extremely strong and the future stuff is cool, but the rogues gallery is pretty crap. The final movie with Joker is S tier though, They legit have an R rated version of it that is amazing. Their version of the final battle between Batman and Joker is just.. Its perfect. Just the mystery alone of how Joker came back was an amazing hook.

Justice League: The first season was a bit rough. Great Premier and some good episodes here and there, but you could tell they were not used to writing a team show. Eventually they fired everything on all 4 cylinders and from Season 2 onward the show was consistently excellent. Kevin Conroy's batman is the draw, but everybody else gets a lot of time to shine and bring their A game. Superman got a new voice Actor with George Newburn but really grew into the character and became my favorite version of superman. He's not a boy scout anymore and there's a world weariness to him, but he's still a hero. He fights against his inner cynic and pulls himself from the brink again and again. That's what makes him so interesting to me as superman.

The coolest part of seeing batman in justice league is seeing him ever so slowly start to lighten up bit by bit and realize how much the team means to him and the world.

Justice League Unlimited

One of the greatest DC works ever made. Im not exaggerating in the slightest. The whole basic idea is Genus. The earth gets invaded one too many times and the Justice league just say's screw it lets recruit EVERY superhero. Great writing and EXCELLENT continuity to everything that came before. Just perfect setup's and executions. They really did an excellent job showcasing the DC universe and writing satisfying stories. One of the best arcs running through it is the U.S government becoming more and more afraid of the justice league's power and responding violently to it.

Jeffery combs has a major role in season 1. What more can I say?

Batman's entire Arc has a full blown ending in this! it's pretty crazy. The only negative is they were not allowed to use batman villains, Because they had another batman show on the network running at around the same time. It was completely retarded but it ended up working out pretty well by showcasing more obscure villains.

By today's standards these are legit the best cartoons on the planet.

a proper beginning middle and end to his saga.
Shame the end involved cucking Tim for no reason but shock value and ensure Bats ends up a cynical, bitter old man with no friends, undoing all of the work done in the other shows.

Just the mystery alone of how Joker came back was an amazing hook.
Plus the Joker is fucking killed for good at long last.

e fights against his inner cynic and pulls himself from the brink again and again. That's what makes him so interesting to me as superman.
Supes was also willing to kill too, and for good reasons, not randomly snapping a villain's neck for shock value.

Would you guys recommend "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"?

I despise Joss Whedon with every fiber of my being, but I keep hearing how good it is and I'm curious.
The first three seasons are great. The next couple of seasons are mixed, with some great bits but also some shit. The last couple of seasons are fucking awful.

I agree with @Goodbye Horses when it come to which seasons to watch, there's some good TV in there.

If you don't end up liking Buffy, but want to try something similar, I would highly recommend Angel. It's the Buffy spin-off show, still by Whedon, but I personally think it's better in all regards. The last season especially is fantastic, probably the best of the shows run.

I watched Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie and highly recommend it. I went in pretty blind and that's definitely the way to see it. There were many times that I had no idea where it was going to go next on top of being really funny.

Yes, Angel is also well worth watching. The fourth season is a bit dodgy, but the fifth does rebound and is probably the best of either show. James Marsters really brings fresh life to the show as Spike, probably just massively joyful that he can play an actual character again rather than being treated like a walking-talking blowup doll by Marti Noxon, the talentless bitch that was in charge of the last couple of seasons of Buffy.

Watched Sorcerer (1977)
One of the best movies I've ever seen. The tenseness was phenomenal (a group of degens are tasked with transporting nitroglycerin by truck through a jungle)
