Tried looking it up, and I got Darker than Black, which I hear was fantastic until it shit the bed in the second season. So you're likely not the only one frustrated by settings that go nowhere.
Yes, I knew there was Black in the title :)
Season 1 is really good but it's clear that they just wanted one of those neverending IPs that can be turned into a million gatcha games.
There is some room for speculation, however I wouldn't call this "mystery box" style of writing, where there is no explanation and the author is making it up.
If there is a big mystery about what set the events of the story in motion, I think that the writers are kind of required to give us something, even if it's ridiculous shit like:
"There was a war in heaven, god got murdered, this is the aftermath."
That doesn't give you any details but it gives you just enough to activate your brain.

If they're not planning on solving the mystery in any way, don't make it a mystery, that's my stance.

If it feels like I'm overanalyzing this, I am.
That's what I do on KF :)

Saw it yesterday. I liked it but almost wish it had subtitles because of how the dialogue gets drowned out by the other audio at times.

My thought was that the ocean itself was a hive mind looking for more victims and information on the black box would reveal that there's nothing down there but eldritch bullshit and warn off any future would-be victims. The fish was just an extension of its will.
It seems this is the correct conclusion, though I admit I also thought the voices were coming from the fish at first. I had to do some reading afterwards to understand that the ocean itself was alive and trying to assimilate the rest of humanity into itself, with the fish being a tool to secure its victims.

Some hi-res images of the monster have been released.

Its crazy how well it ended up doing.

It's even crazier (and more meaningful) when you consider he doesn't have to cut in a distributor, a studio or other investors.

The self-distribution deal is perhaps the most important and impressive parts. As lots of people have MADE indie films, but getting them in theaters without fucking ankling yourself has been the big speed bump. Hopefully now theaters will be more amenable to directly distributed films considering they made a killing on this and it costs them nothing.

Although him building a render farm in his bathroom for blood ocean effects is something of a feat too.

I enjoyed the film, but it's definitely an arse destroyer. Could have knocked off half hour and improved the film immensely...but long periods of him checking coordinates, scribbling and rechecking are kind of why it held tension in the first place. Weird one to critique.

Regardless of any criticism, looking it at through the lens of an actual, truly independent film makes it a very impressive effort. Mark's got a lot of money behind him sure, but had zero experience or support otherwise. I won't go so far as to say "Hollywood is scared", but I do respect the guy for following through on what is clearly a passion project.

My local cinema was absolutely packed, which was really surprising. Ended up gossiping about Unnus Annus with a few people after, ha.

Markiplier will Self Distribute ‘Iron Lung’ on Digital and Physical Media, and he also plans on making a better system for other creators to self publish.
"As for the physical media release of Iron Lung, that’s also in the works. He explains that he’s going to literally have a DVD/Blu-ray machine that will be auto-producing copies of Iron Lung in his home, allowing him to self distribute the film on physical media."

Based as fuck. He could make this a side business if he plays his cards right.

Saw this two hour existential crisis the other night. *coughdailymotioncough*

Not bad, I can see where it needed a little more spoon feeding of the plot for anyone not familiar with the game it was based on, but it's not bad.

Finally watched it. It was okay, should have cut 30 minutes to make it flow better. Having the main character be an important person messed with the point of the main character being just a random convict with an unknown name. Also the whole plot ended up being a big mystery box.

I remember the sub in the game being a quarter of the size in this one, and Mark not getting any explanation to how anything works is pretty retarded when there are so few subs left. It's the kind of thing you take for granted in a game but in a film it falls flat.
