Disaster Active shooter alert issued for areas in and around Tumbler Ridge, B.C. - Residents asked to shelter in place; suspect described as "woman" in a dress with brown hair

An active shooter alert has been issued for a large area in and around Tumbler Ridge in B.C.'s northeast.

The alert was issued Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. PT by RCMP, and it covers Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek and areas surrounding them.

Police say those in the Tumbler Ridge area should stay indoors and shelter in place, and not leave their homes.

The suspect in the case has been described as a woman in a dress with brown hair.

Anyone who sees the suspect has been asked not to approach them and to call 911.

Thing is, they do. Let me tell you a little story back during the later end of high school. It was near the end of the school year of 2014 and I was at some event for the NHS with a group of people I hardly ever interacted with. As we were talking, some pooner girl walked up to us because she knew some of the people there. This pooner had decided to go for the most stereotypical douchebag look possible. You know the one, pic related accept no muscle. And she dressed like this every single day for the better part of two years at this point. I have never interacted with her before this and I wasn't about to now. I let the others do the talking. They were completely cool with her and had a polite conversation. After she left the circle, the MOMENT she was out of ear shot they started talking behind her back. Things about how she use to have such nice hair, how it was gross she didn't shave her legs, how they hated the douchebag look, and how she must have a terrible home life. They weren't mean per sea, but they discussed things they clearly wouldn't in her presence. They pitied her. They did not see her as normal nor an equal. It's just a performance they put on. But, behind close doors they are thinking about how weird these people are. And does it surprise you that the same people talking behind the pooner's back have super progressive politics now? It's all an act just to appear as a good person without actually having to put in the work to be one.



I think the time frame is important as in 2014 the gay marriage debate was at it's fever pitch but the gender special and tranny stuff was in it's early stages of breaking out to wider discourse and hadn't yet entered into the public conscious as being the correct thing to believe around others. So it was still kosher to openly deride this type of person openly. Not so much now.
