The American trucker has legitimate grievances with all that shit, for the same reason all working class men (and women) from the endangered White roofing-bird, to the union automotive assembly line worker told his factory will be shutting (but there's new jobs at a third of the rate in Alabama) to the pink-collar Salesforce front end developer, have legitimate grievances against how capitalist corruption has overregulated what doesn't need regulating and underregulated what does.
Drug testing? 10-15% of Americans will admit to regularly smoking weed. I hate weed, I tend to dislike people who smoke weed. However, they aren't all bad, and people who do absolutely fucking thankless jobs from pizza delivery through over the road trucking disproportionately smoke weed. It can show up and give your boss an excuse to fuck with you two, three weeks after you smoked it- even though it's fully gone from fucking with your reactions the night after you smoked it up. I think weed dealers should be ritually executed, but, no working man who drives more than ten hours a day paying full attention to the road, plus several more hours smoking ciggies on the side of the road waiting to get loaded up, should have to worry about his boss having an excuse to dock his pay because he smoked a couple joints in the maybe two or three hour actual break in the middle of a fucking Walmart parking lot he had to sort out dinner and calling his kids on Facetime and finding a clean enough hooker before he had to go to sleep to get back on the road at 5am.
Elogs? This is a bit more nuanced.
Elogs are good, in a nation with workers rights, where laws regarding elogs are universally enforced against good and bad operators. But neither of those two things are true in the United States. Firstly, even if you're officially employed, even if you're an American, you're going to be pushed to run over hours. That should not happen but it is the norm. And noone who doesn't want to be earning slightly more than a Walmart greeter is an employee of a trucking company. No, they're 'subcontracting' as a Proud American Striver, driving a truck bought on some usurious loan that the company they're contracting to probably arranged. They are being driven to either- at least slightly- break the letter of the law, and elogs make it impossible to do that even when it can be done somewhat safely.

Elogs can't. Elogs don't necessarily actually add safety- if you are driving from one location to another location which takes eight hours, and then to another location which takes eight hours, any trooper can look at that and call it out for what it is without an electronic spy in your cab being involved.
Meanwhile, Harjinder Singh, who Trump brought in to replace all the lazy ammurrican truckers who didn't love being shit on enough and did a U-turn on the Florida Turnpike and crushed a family of three to death? He doesn't have to worry about e-log enforcement, if a state trooper pulls him up on violating things he'll just disappear and some other Indian will pick up his truck which will turn out to now be registered to another company entirely. You think Harpiner's e-log is wired into the ignition circuit, rather than being controlled by a switch? If you do, perhaps you should be drug tested.
