It's mostly just confirmation bias stuff. If you're a far leftist and someone says, "Hey, Hitler wore a jacket like that once!", you'll go "OMG, so true! He's channeling Hitler!". Whereas, if you're a right winger, you'll make the comparison you just did: This jacket reminds me of General Patton or Churchill or whatever.

For less invested normies, I think they'll tend to reject any of the "dog whistle" claims as long as it's not egregious, like Musk doing a "Nazi salute." And to be clear, I think that really was just an autistic "my heart goes out to you" gesture, but the point is something uncanny like that is where you get meaningfully bad optics.
Funny you mention the last part...

"Was ist los, hund?" thats "Whats up dog" the only German I picked up from some time over there other than "Bring ma no a Bier, bitte"

For real though I dont think he is a nazi either I just think like this shit

is doing nothing but damage from an optics perspective. Just my 2 dumb cents.

Even his fantasy reward is soy and limp. Instead of "imagine the eternal glory, your name etched in fire forever embossed on the cover of American History" it's "think of the gofundme numbers"
True, but it depends on the person. Some already suicidal man might care more about the notion of his leaving his family half a million dollars than being considered a hero by leftist faggots.

I prefer Fatpacks doom posts to whatever the fuck this is

By comparison, here is a GoFundMe set up for one of my young adult church group members that recently lost her dad. It's getting harder not to blackpill.

I kind of feel bad for a lot off these National Guard members. Most of them are probably either regular normies or right wing and are being forced to help these lunatics
And they won't refuse to comply because reasons.

I don't remember hearing a peep from anyone when this happened. And it seems pretty egregious to me.

Saying that small, uncanny, gestures like this can net you bad optics is stupid. For the unaware masses optics and public perception is largely influenced by what they are told. Not what they see or hear. The left is full of hypocrites who will weaponized anything against you and then turn around and do the exact same thing only to be met with praise and cheers.

Well, people aren't primed to think of left wingers as Nazis in the first place. So, sure, it may be a double standard or whatever, but the fact is that Elon doing a quasi-Nazi salute will come across as suspect to normies whereas Mamdani doing it will not. The point isn't really what's fair or true upon investigation or plausible in context. It's just what, in practice, ends up being bad optics to independent or moderate types.

And, of course, you don't have to care about optics personally. I'm not even making a case for that, though I do think the average person going "Gee, I don't know, didn't Elon literally salute Hitler?" is pretty bad for your movement. But my point was just that I think it takes something being uncanny before normies buy it. Nazi salute? Yes. Akshully, the hem on this jacket was first used by the 1936 Wehrmacht Algerian Freikorps? Nah.

Edit: To put it a little differently, I'd say that if you have to explain to a normie why something is a reference, they probably will view it as reaching/conspiratorial. Whereas, if it taps into their prior knowledge and it strikes them immediately as uncanny, they'll probably buy it without any explanation needed.

Playing against high school boys, getting rekt then fouling the shit out of them
The thing that makes the WNBA unwatchable is that they fuck up constantly (check the turnover and FG% stats), get frustrated because they can't do anything right, and turn the game into a lesbian roid rage slapfight with a ball bouncing randomly over it like a beachball thrown into a concert crowd.
