You know, when a guy yells "I have a gun!" and reaches into his pocket, then pulls his hand out as quickly as possible so the cops blast his dumb ass before he can get a shot off, but it turns out he was lying and he didn't have a gun? It doesn't fucking matter if you actually have a gun (which this idiot did at the start of the struggle), what matters is if the officer believes there is a threat of imminent physical harm. This is why cops can shoot people with knives or other melee weapons. This is why cops can shoot people who try to flee a scene in a vehicle. This is why cops can shoot people who are unarmed but engaging in potentially lethal violence in many places (such as slamming someone's head on pavement, or strangling someone). Life is not a video game where the instant your gun leaves your grasp a boolean variable gets flipped to false and now the police officer AI isn't allowed to open fire. The law doesn't work like that either.
Protip: Don't resist arrest. You are not Luke Cage, bullets can hurt you. You are not John Wick, you are not able to gunfight a dozen people and survive. Keep your life intact and don't give your future lawyer a stress-related heart attack, just fucking let them cuff you.
