oh hey look it's exactly the same story that always plays out
  • trump credibly threatens tariffs and asks for something
  • the opposing party, seeing the credible threat of the tarriffs, comes to the negotiating table
  • trump, having asked for more than he wants, "settles" for exactly what he actually wanted and then rescinds the tariffs
i don't even need to tell these people "read history" anymore because the same verse keeps repeating every fucking month and they still KEEP NOT LEARNING

That and the birthright citizenship case. The fact SCOTUS is even bothering to hear the birthright citizenship case in itself is something I wouldn’t have thought possible in 2016.
It's because birthright citizenship is actually very murky legally. The writers of the amendment were quoted and wrote extensively saying that the law was ONLY for former slaves and Indians. those two groups were essentially stateless in the 19th century. they were "subject to the jurisdiction" of the US but had no actual legal rights. It's like those poor fuckers born into cults who never get a SSN or birth certificate. they're completely fucked.

The case that established Birthright citizen ship has been expanded way past it's original scope to what we have today. Originally the ruling stated that if a child is born in the US to non-citizen residing legally in the US and conducting business, that child was a citizen.

If that original ruling was still in force the vast majority of spics in this nation would be non-citizens. unfortunately judges kept expanding it and expanding it until it covered all children.

At this point I'm calling for the banning of SSRIs.
I’m a pharmacy tech and in my boomer filled area every time I do my fills or prepacks it’s almost always some SSRI/SNRI/antidepressants in every one.

They’re not for most of the boomers per se, but because it seems every where semi wealthy/wealthy boomers go and retire to, they drag their insane rehab rat mentally ill millennial offspring with them for a “fresh start”.

The original reasoning for birthright citizenship makes a lot of sense. It’s a shame it got so bastardized. It’s sadly now abused to the point where women take “vacations” in the US to give birth and have kids that are legally considered US citizens. It needs to be scaled back to what it was originally intended for.

You reminded me of posts I was seeing on reddit calling Trump’s kids his wives’ anchor babies.

This isn't really accurate, the Viet Cong were effectively pacified by the end of the war through a combination of getting their back broken in the Tet Offensive and the hearts and minds programs that get scorned actually working, the problem was that the US was never allowed to go directly after the North Vietnamese Army itself for geopolitical reasons. The way to win the war was to either to invade Cambodia and North Vietnam and defeat the NVA in the field instead of just driving them back across the border, or to commit to parking American troops in the South long-term as in Korea or Germany until they could get their shit together (which they were slowly doing), but political realities made either solution a no-go. Indiscriminate slaughter of Vietnamese wasn't really the way to 'victory'.
When Nixon let the Air force off the leash and they pummeled north Vietnam, the Vietnamese came to the negotiating table in 2 weeks.

I miss it when shit bulls had their own containment zone to trash class trailer parks and ghettos and now over the last decade every millennial middle-upper middle class lib shit wants to adopt one to show how virtuous they are.
I think liberals in Minnesota should form an Adopt-a-Somalian program to fight ICE. I need more entertainment

Quick reminder that your ancestors did not cross oceans, tame continents and spill their blood for the benefit of Somalis and Indians. They did it for their offspiring. They did it for you.

This is why the SCOTUS even entertaining the idea that Trump doesn't have the right to do this, when he very clearly does, is absurd. This is literally one of the big sticks the Executive has to deal with foreign powers, and SCOTUS is thinking of taking it away because the EU Longhouse and the US Deep State are in the same Signal chats.

Honestly I can't even bring myself to care because Virginia brought this upon themselves. What I do care about is just how pathetic our representatives are at actually codifying bullshit instead of making things vulnerable to whoever comes next.
I just know there’s going to be more Virginians moving to neighboring states soon once those taxes really settle in. Those higher taxes don’t even guarantee a better standard of living, because oftentimes they get used to fund projects very few people actually benefit from. For me personally, I’m not against taxes that would guarantee a higher standard of living (like maintained infrastructure and minimized healthcare costs). A lot of that extra tax money just ends up going towards illegals instead. The ammunition tax in Virginia is especially dumb, and they’re treating it like buying cigarettes.

It's been used and abused to hell and back. I'm guessing SCOTUS will significantly limit it rather than terminate it. Not the best outcome, but substantially better than any of us could have wished for only two years ago.
