Moving that many assets at once isn't normal, especially to Diego Garcia which is in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Like I stated last night, the bombers will take off from US bases, fly to Iran refueling along the way, fire their Tomahawks in the case of B-52s and B-1s while the B-2s will penetrate Iran like a drunk prom date, and then land at Diego Garcia. The C-5s and C-17s are bringing ordinance there to rearm them for more attack runs. During GWOT the B-52s and B-1s that'd loiter over Afghanistan dropping a JDAM or two on Taliban positions would be based out of Diego Garcia at first. The lack of a carrier group in the Gulf isn't that important since the first strikes will require stealth which the F/A-18s aren't good at and the Iranian air force is a joke at this point so we won't be dog fighting their 50+ year old F-5s and F-4s. This isn't going to be a one and done thing, expect at least a week or two of bombing to fully cripple the IRGC. By that point we could have a carrier group close enough to Iran to take over from the bombers. I'd wager that the new Syrian regime wouldn't mind if we launched missions from their territory as a way to get back at Iran for supporting Assad for years.
