I think it runs deeper than that. He has a completely insatiable need to present himself precisely how he envisions himself, the published gritty sci-fi author and street-smart tough motherfucker that has more to say about the world than anyone else, especially you. This desire to project his perfected self-image clashes directly with other people's (previously and extensively documented) observations of him and his behavior, to the point of him necessarily having to deny objective reality.
What I'm really wondering is where this stems from. Psychopathy is earmarked by the need to obessively fit into social groups, usually in a prestigious position in society. I don't know what happens behind closed doors at the SFWA, but they must be sick of him at this point so I doubt that's where he's climbing any ladders. Is he really just a retarded drunken narcissist?
